| I hate exercise but am managing to enjoy walking 4 miles a day at a fairly fast pace. I weigh 200 lbs. How many calories do you think I expend doing that? |
| There are online calculators that will tell you. Google it. |

| I do not know the answer to your question but wanted to say great job on the 4 miles each day! |
| ditto--that's fantastic! keep it up. |
| 1mile is 100 calories. |
| It depends on speed, terrain and your individual metabolism |

False. That is a myth and overexaggerted number. http://www.runnersworld.com/peak-performance/running-v-walking-how-many-calories-will-you-burn |
| Irrespective of calories, it is a great way to get healthy. Make small incremental dietary changes and you can really reap the benefits. |
No actually the speed doesn't matter. The person who runs 1 mile around a track will burn 100 calories. The person who walk a mile around a track will burn 100 calories. The difference is that the runner will do it much faster. Metabolism? Of course it's going to be give or take some depending on age, weight, etc. And yes, walking straight up a hill for a mile will burn more than a flat course. But 100 calories is a good estimate. |
| ^^ going to be different^^^ |
Please stop. This is one of those dumb exercise myths, like people who exercise in heavy layers. There's a reason why running is more difficult - because it uses considerably more energy and effort to push your body up with your leg muscles, and each step. Walking burns 1/2 to 2/3 the amount of calories running does, per mile. |
