according to an op-ed in Politico.

Slippery slope argument...sigh... |
I have to say, if you want the government out of marriage, the government should get out of marriage. Huge problems though when it comes to workplace benefits |
1. I don't see any good reason not to legalize plural marriage
2. the author of that politico story sounds like a world class sarcastic prick (he's the ex of a friend of a friend, and apparently actually is a world class sarcastic prick) |
Legally, the precedent is set. Get out your slip n' slide! |
I don't have to approve of what consenting adults are up to. You want to marry 1 person or 2 people or a person of the same gender, go for it, not my problem. |
As a divorced parent of 3 kids, I would like to marry my kids so when I sell my house instead of the 250k tax exemption, I could get 500k or if i married them all at once a million! |
Assuming that the consenting adults are consenting and adults, it would involve rewriting the tax code, inheritance laws, all sorts of benefits, welfare, etc. And economically, it doesn't really make sense.
I do think we should clarify that you won't be prosecuted if a legally married couple live with one or more others. However, they can still be prosecuted for welfare or tax fraud. Or child sex crimes. |
If there's one man and multiple women then it's not exactly an equal dynamic and is not at all the same as a normal marriage between two people. |
And the children? Not your problem? Then why is it republicans are responsible for every unwanted child out there? |
You can't rewrite what has already been rewritten. All about the 'feels'. |
Pulling from another thread on here, is a normal marriage where there is a wealthy fat bald man and a women one half his age? Is that an equal dynamic? |
Committed triads (or throuples) and other arrangements between consenting adults are private matters in which the government has no business. |
You could say the same about gay marriage. |
Yuppers. And yet... |
