I have never been to, but rumor has it is a good spot for kids.
Can anybody recommend a place to stay with 2.5 yo in July/August?

Thank you!!

I'd stay at Sea Colony "East" in the oceanfront high rises. Go to resortquest.com and you can search for units on their website. Make sure you have a nice view and make sure the unit is furnished the way you want, but besides that all the buildings are pretty similar. We have gone every year with our two little ones since they were born and they LOVE it. The condos have full kitchens and you can walk or drive to the small town area, which has a nice playground and family-friendly shops and restaurants. There is also a little shop that sells coffee and doughnuts in the Sea Colonly buildings (in Edgewater) and my kids love going there every morning (since they used to wake up at the crack of dawn!) and it was a nice little morning walk for us.

I don't know how you can go wrong anywhere in Bethany, honestly. I grew up going to a rented house in Bethany West, which is a short bike ride or a shuttle ride from the beach. I loved being in a single family house with a yard to play in. 2 pools, tennis courts, great roads to ride bikes on without worrying about traffic. All the rentals I've stayed in were fully equipped with laundry/full kitchens/etc.

It really just depends on what you want. There are condos/townhouses/SFHs. Beach front, bay front, no front. Planned communities, golf communities, and just stand-alone houses. I loved it so much, we bought a small house down there for our kids to "grow up" in.

I also highly recommend Sea Colony. We go every year. I also think the other families are nice that I have encountered.

Thank you, everybody!

I like renting the units a little bike ride from the beach by the "boardwalk." The high rise situation -though beachfront- is not my favorite. But, it might be yours.

We rent an oceanfront condo at Bethany every year. We rent through Tansey Warner to avoid the madhouse lines that form at check in through the general SC rental agency. We like walking from our condo to the boardwalk with the kids, and playing at the playground near the boardwalk.

We rent through Coldwell Banker in Bethanny for our SC rental and have wonderful experiences for the last 3 years.

Potentially stupid question, but I've never vacationed with a child before - what do you do all week to keep the little ones entertained? Is just going to the beach enough?

What does "SC" stand for? If it is for South Carolina, I will feel really stupid

As a follow-up question to the PP's, what are some activities for those with toddler aged kids?

How old? I take my 2.5 year old to the pool each morning, or the beach. Nap time. Afternoons I do sprinkler out in the yard. Or a bike ride if it's not too hot. Early dinner (almost everywhere is family friendly). Chill on the beach or boardwalk in the evenings. Bethany has live bands quite often on the boardwalk. Generally not my type of music, but my kid loves it.

Just don't expect quiet. The beach is pretty crowded. If you know that's what you are in for, it is lovely.

Of course Who would dream of quiet with a toddler?
