The beach is very quiet in May and early June. Things really pick up once kids get out of school. July and August are the busiest months. To answer an earlier question about what to do with little kids: you are correct that infants and toddlers (and sometimes even older kids) cannot stay on the beach all day. That's why having an oceanfront condo is ideal so parents can tag-team it with kids and still enjoy some beach time. In addition to the beach and pools, we typically break up the day by walking to town each morning for coffee, etc., playing at the playground, mini golf (you can walk to the Pirates mini golf one block past the main street/boardwalk, going to the arcade on the boardwalk, etc. We also spend one late afternoon/early evening going to Rehoboth to go on the rides and play games. We usually head to Lewes for part of one day. And we sometimes venture into OC for the boardwalk, a special restaurant, or more mini-golf.
