| My appointment was at 12, I got here at 11:50, it's 1:30 and she hasn't gotten to me yet. I'm pissed. Baby is at home with a $20/hour sitter. I feel like leaving but need my hair cut. I usually tip 20% but given the circumstances, how much should I tip? |
|
I would not tip, unless she told me a story of extraordinary circumstances.
Although - I wouldn't have waited 90 minutes either. I can understand why you are (got everything lined up, need the cut), but I would have been crazy pissed by about 45-60 minutes. Unless she told me a very compelling story, I wouldn't be going back to her, so I wouldn't tip and I wouldn't feel bad about it. |
| It looks like she just overbooked. She doesn't appear overly concerned that I've been waiting here for an hour and a half |
| Zero. She kept you waiting an hour and a half with no explanation? They would charge you if you didn't show up. I would not tip at all. Under normal circumstances, 20%. |
Does she know you have a 12 appointment? |
Yep. She just started |
| That's absolutely insane, OP. No tip - no way. Frankly she shouldn't charge you anything. What was her excuse? Did her manager even talk to you? This is totally unbelievable. Is this the first time you are seeing her? I would ask her if she is always running so drastically behind schedule. |
| Tell us what she said, and isles their was a death involved, no tip!! |
| Op here. She said nothing just started doing my hair as if nothing was wrong. She received no tip and I will not be going back. Full disclosure, I'm biracial and this was my first visit to an African American salon. Hair looks great but what a horrible experience. Back to the Aveda salon for me. |
| My salon would have called and let me know she was behind and possibly offered another stylist. Agree with no tip. |
You should name it.
Seriously, though, I'd call management and just let them know what happened. If it's standard practice, they won't care. If not, they may bend over backwards to make it up to you. But that's really worthy of a yelp review. |
PP has a good point. Personally, I would have left after 30 minutes and made it very clear why I was leaving. Why throw good money (haircut + tip) after bad (overpriced babysitter)? (Unless you have 4+ kids, you totally overpaid a $20/hr babysitter.) Even if you have money to burn, OP, at least burn it responsibly and don't let people take advantage of you. |
|
I wouldn't tip her a red cent.
How unprofessional of her to have you wait that long, anytime over fifteen minutes is rude and inconsiderate. |
|
I can't believe you waited. My policy for everyone including doctors is that I wait 20 minutes then let someone know I'm probably going to leave.
Some doctors have surgeries etc and run late. If the appts are important I may wait up to an hour. A hair dresser... no way. I have walked out twice in the last few years. There are a lot of poorly run salons and clueless stylists. |
| She should have been falling all over herself to apologize. I'd find a new salon and would not have tipped. |
