No, but this will set off more redistricting in other Republican states that balked at doing it for now. And those states have already done heavy gerrymandering.
The only real gain left is Colorado.

most of the GOP states are already gerrymandered, the dems would have more to pick up as long as the states with independent commissions played ball

So the gist of the case in Alito's opinion appears to be that they are not dismantling the VRA. They say that there is no longer a need for racially gerrymandered districts since black elected leaders are in political positions in record numbers.

But that law was passed by Congress. So, if SCOTUS doesn't like it or think it's not needed, the correct mechanism would be to would be to overrule it. Further, Alito is a POS chickensh--. He is trying to have it both ways: enough plausible deniability to say "I didn't over rule it" but leaving the new "framework" as evidence of intent to discriminate (which is nearly impossible to prove).

Finally, as RGB said (as noted on The Daily), even if it wasn't necessary: just because it's not raining, you don't throw out the umbrella.

The VRA is dead. A new congress would need to pass a new VRA and hope a more legitimate court in the future doesn't do what these klansmen just did.

I just hope I live to see the day that the younger conservatives are asked publicly about the perception of their white supremacist judicial legacy.

The VRA under previous regime was to engage in racial discrimination while drawing political maps.

It has now passed.

Those districts look pretty compact and contiguous. Nothing like Virginia or Illinois.

You must be blind. Do you see what's happening near Miami / Palm Beach?

We Democrats lost the fight. We might occasionally capture the House in the future, but it will generally be a Republican lock in most elections starting in 2028. Hopefully the Senate can be turned more often.

This has to stop.

How can it be legal to ever gerrymander based on partisanship. It means disenfranchised voters from one party or the other depending on the state. It means voters not receiving representation in the House. It basically nullified the entire system of the House of Representatives.

Gerrymandering based on any voter feature should be illegal. If you can’t do it for race, how can they possibly justify political party or ANYTHING else.

This is outrageous. It completely breaks the system.

Well. The system is actually broken already. GOPhas to cheat to win.

“BREAKING: Hakeem Jeffries is reportedly eyeing Democratic redistricting counterpunches in New York, Illinois, Maryland, and Colorado after the Supreme Court’s Voting Rights Act ruling unleashed a new map war. Trump, who praises the court when it helps him and attacks it when it doesn’t, is now lashing out at Jeffries for criticizing the justices. The only principle is the seat count.”
