Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Frost also just completed a multi-million dollar renovation. I don't see how they would have room for an additional grade, though. WFES is not nearly large enough to be a MS. |
Agreed. This Hail Mary thought that FCPS would be able to implement 6th grade into existing facilities in 2026 is nutso. |
This is not on the BRAC agenda. Someone is screwing with you. There are no pre-planned maps. DCUM is good for fake news and angry Republicans. Don't take the bait. |
| Forestville ES is going to move to HHS?! Those parents are going to have a giant sh*t fit. Forestville is lily white and full of rich folk. |
Nobody who knows anything about Forestville would claim that it's lily white. It's very diverse. |
It’s very telling that when you point out that these schools are incredibly diverse, the equity warriors tell you that it’s not the right type of diversity. It’s a shifting goal post and you’ll never get there according to them. |
Hate to inform you--but Democrats also want their kids to stay in their present schools. |
What is public is the fact that FCPS is concurrently rinning 2 massive scope boundary studies for Coates and Parklawn. Coates is absurd since until the comprehensive review is complete there could be movement to 1 school or 2 schools to provide partial relief . Coates ES (263) Floris ES 63 McNair ES 64 McNair Upper 104 (32) Why is McNair lower over 450 less in program than design capacity? That's an absurd spread. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/DDSQ9B682F0C/$file/Presentation%20%E2%80%93%20Proposed%20Scope%20for%20Coates%20ES%20Boundary%20Study.pdf |
DP. It’s not economically diverse. But they think they are entitled to attend a school 10+ miles away with other rich kids. |
Hi again. Every time you post your supposed gotcha talking point, I have to point out that distance doesn’t equate to time. This morning, as the bus drove by, I checked Apple Maps to see the time from Forestville to the respective schools. Forestville to HMS - 16 minutes. Forestville to Cooper - 18 minutes Forestville to HHS - 12 minutes Forestville to Langley - 21 minutes. Your 10+ mile “point” turns to poo when you realize you are talking about a savings of 2 minutes per route for middle school and 9 for high school. I know you’ll repeat that tripe again, because you’ve got nothing better to do, but transportation is not a relevant issue in this neck of the woods. |
I think that's what he's in-line with. The Republicans keep bringing up the DEI card as a motivation for rezoning and make that a plan to turn Fairfax Red. Langley/Herndon is an easy fire for them to light. It's just bus routes and capacity. |
Fun fact, there are many dems in great falls, or were is probably a better way to describe it. I was one of those democrats, and I see the moves as a clear cut equity play too. See the immediate post above yours re: the bus route fiction. As for capacity, that’s been discussed at length before, no need to rehash the myriad problems that FCPS has created for itself over the years. |
It’s posted on the FCPS website that BRAC will be reviewing 2 potential scenarios at their next meeting. As for the republican comment, I proudly voted for Harris and strongly, strongly against this boundary change based on equity. |
It’s not about what you prefer. It’s about reducing transportation costs in the interests of all students. |
It's documented that the Democrat-run school board began planning a county-wide boundary review/redraw due to the commitment to One Fairfax. The point of redoing Policy 8130 was to put a "One Fairfax Lens" on the way boundaries are drawn. "Equity" is at the center of this and it is unreasonable that the Democrats don't stand behind this principle. It is also wild that in a majority blue county anyone would think that the politicians acting according to their party's principles would make the people that voted for them because they are democrats change their votes to republican. |
