Do your kids know who Mickey Mouse is?

Anonymous
Read WaPo article today about Disney amusement parks pricing out the middle class. Have felt this way for a long time. Most of the people I know who have gone in the past decade are couples without kids. Always thought I'd take my kids one day, I don't think it will happen. Made me feel a bit sad, but then I realized my early ES kids don't even know who Mickey Mouse is -- though someone bought them a stuffed Mickey doll once. When I here my Kids talk about DisneyWorld they seem to equate it mainly with girls and princesses. They've seen some Disney flicks but they aren't something that they play act out or mention much, except TRON which has zippy connection to Mickey Mouse or princess characters.

Are other kids/families oblivious to Mickey Mouse?

Yes, but their aunt works for ESPN/Disney.

Our kids know. But we'll never go to Disney. Not our thing.

Where have your kids learned about Mickey Mouse? Where does he appear anymore?

They never watched Mickey mouse clubhouse? It's my favorite cartoon . I personally love the show and I love Disney and I'm 32. If you make it a priority almost anyone can afford it. I go to Disneyland every other yr or so with my friends and their children. We live in Oregon so we can drive down. My friends that make 60-80k per yr just make it a priorty.

Mickey Mouse clubhouse is on the Disney channel and Disney jr multiple times per day. At least 15 times per day between the 2 channels.

DD is only 2 and doesn't know. I will still take her someday whether we actually ever end up watching Disney things or not.

I think so. Kid is 7. Don't have cable and haven't been to Disney World or ever seen the Mickey Mouse clubhouse. But it's on a They Might Be Giants CD (theme song).

It's certainly not a character he talks about.

Yes, although we haven't been to Disney World yet.

Same for my 2 yr old DS. I'll take him one day, probably in 5 years or so.

ES kids have never watched Disney channel except maybe once or twice at doctor's office (at their PCP's other office further from home). Just not in our family vocabulary.

Yes, and I don't even know if we have the Disney Channel. Love the sanctimonious who imply that every kid who knows who MM is is a tv zombie. Have you seen how many tshirts/games that face is on?
