Do your kids know who Mickey Mouse is?

That's how it would be for my kids. If I took them elsewhere Kings Dominion or Cedar Point, it would be just as good. As a kid back in the day, Disney had more meaning, and if someone said we're going to Disney World, it would create more excitement than any other amusement park.

This is not even close to true--even if your kid doesn't know Mickey Mouse, Disney is an "experience," not just a day riding roller coasters.

Is this a fake post? If not, there aren't enough eye rolls in the world.

My kid watches a ton of TV and doesn't know Disney/Disney channel because that's cable and I don't particularly like it.

My kid loved the variety of disney and had a blast but he wasn't into the disney experience nor did we pay for a lot of the extra's like character meals, etc. We went because its easy.

Only by way of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

FWIW we go to Disney World about 4 times a year, Disneyland 1 time and do a summer cruise.

Whoa. Do you work for Disney? This is overkill.

I just finished reading that article OP.
what's keeping me from going is the crowds, the lines, the heat, and the cost (that would be our vacation for the year).
My kids haven't asked and I'm not suggesting it.

Back in the day, going to Disneyland was considered something the "working to middle-class" did during the summer w/the kids since it was cheaper than flying to Europe like the upper middle class did for summers.

Now..It seems only the upper class gets to go.

The prices are now sky high and at more than $100 each person, yes..Even the kids...Factoring in gas, food, parking and souvenirs this is a huge hit in the family budget.

In spite of this, many of the children I know do know Mickey Mouse. And the girls just love Minnie.

I think it's because they see the toys and watch it on T.V. too.

My DD loves Minnie and Mickey. She especially loves anything related to Minnie's Bowtique.

I love it just as much as she does, to be honest!

Hasn't been to Disneyland, but generally knows of Mickey Mouse, although I think she's more familiar with Minnie - more of the gifts have Minnie on it. Kids aren't banned from watching TV, but it's just not a part of daily life, and when they do get a show, it's usually Super Readers.

Also, I'm from LA and think Disneyland is one of the less exciting amusement parks. I'd take my kids to Knotts Berry Farm before Disneyland. I think DL is only exciting if you care about the princesses. If you're there for the rides and the food, Knotts is better.

No and overkill for who? It is what we enjoy doing with our children. We visit adventureland (DHs home state) magic mountain and knotts berry farm (my home state) with them too, as well as other vacations. I just thought I would qualify that we visit disneyworld and our children know who mickey mouse is to answer the OPs question.

Yes, my 5 and 8 year old know who MM is. It seemed like everyone in my oldest's class went in 1st grade.

My kids are in elementary and they only have a vague notion Mickey. Kinda like Howdy Doody was for me.

My 13-year-old has probably been to WDW about 15 times. He has known who Mickey Mouse was from the earliest ages. We are DVC Vacation Club members and typically have annual passes. We love it, he loves it ...and that reminds me, I need to book our dining reservations for our next trip! Staying at a 1-bedroom with kitchen, huge balcony and jacuzzi. We're planning to do the Animator's Studio as a family this time, where we all learn to draw a character. We always do something different, and we always have fun.
