Do you have a fun end of school year tradition?

Anything you do to celebrate your kids finishing up the year? Looking for some simple ideas to mark the end of school. Thanks!

Ice cream! (That's also my first day of school tradition.)

We say yay. And then sometimes go get ice cream. Or maybe go out to dinner. Or both.

WTH? Why the need to engineer elaborate Pinterest-worthy "traditions"? Why not just be?

OP here. I am definitely not interested in Pinterest-worthy anything; why get snarky?

Ice cream sounds good to me, as does your idea of dinner. Any others?

I agree, OP, no need for PP to be snarky.

We don't have one tradition but do try to do something different each year, nothing big. This year, DD finishes middle school and moves on to high school. A lot of her close friends are going to other high schools. So we're going to take one of those friends out to lunch and a movie after school on the last day -- they dismiss school early, too, so there's lots of time for a nice outing. I'd say, if your child has a friend who is going to another school (or if your child is younger, a friend who will be away a lot of the summer, for instance) offer to take your child and that friend to do something the afternoon that school is dismissed.

We do a dessert picnic. All our favorite treats. I usually get balloons to make a balloon trap up against their door for their first day of "freedom".

Family trip to stock up on books for summer reading!

Ice cream for breakfast.

We usually do something fun at the bus - going to be in the 90s tomorrow so I'm thinking water balloons. Last year we had a ice cream party at the bus stop (my driveway) for all the kids at the stop. Nothing fancy but the kids were surprised.

DD is 12 and we get frozen yogurt after the first day of school and ice cream for the last day of school.

This is a big deal for her because we almost never buy ice cream at the supermarket and the rule for after school snacks is they have to grow on the ground or in trees.

In elementary school, we used to go get our nails done on the last day of school because she wasn't allowed to wear nail polish to school. MS allows nail polish so now we go away for a long weekend right after school lets out.

We usually go to the pool and get ice cream and make a list of everything we want to do for the summer.
