MD/DC Schools not good enough

Anonymous
Ive searched and searched for a year for a school my 4 year old daughter to go to this year. I found 1 private school that I found worthy but was not accepted. Ive home schooled her her entire life. She cant start kindergarten because she is "too young" but I know she is academically ready. What do I do? I dont want my daughter at home complaining shes bored and wont have the time to homeschool any longer. I need to find a place where she can learn something on her level. All the daycare/preschools ive seen are just learning ABC and 123 recognition, when my daughter can already read and add. Please help!

Why not introduce punctuation?

You need a more reasonable assessment of "worthiness." (If for no other reason, that when your daughter doesn't get into Harvard [or Duke/MIT/Princeton/Stanford/Yale] she needs to be able to go on living in your eyes.)

Work on it!

by "worthy" i mean the academics were on level for her ability---ie she would be learning knew things in the school and not repeating things she already learned

I have never settled for less just becus i wasnt accepted into some program/job/school. i raise my children to never settle for anything less than what they believe is best for them.

Preschool is largely about social learning, in addition to academic learning. Perhaps you can focus on that and on letting her have fun as well as learn. I know people with very bright children (i.e. reading at 4th grade level when entering kindy) who were not bored in a normal preschool.

No offense, but I never got the home schooling thing. The kids miss out of socializing w/other kids, & don't benefit from 'trained' educators. I suggest you find schools that have a rolling admission, & get her enrolled sooner than later. I'm sure there are more than that 1 school that is 'good enough'. I'm sure she's bored out of her mind.

I dunno about the trained educators part cus most of the teachers i met were not at least as educated as me, they had teacher hour certifications things or watever but no real college training. My child does participate in ballet and swimming each week and has 2 sisters soon to be three so shes not that bored but i do like the idea of her getting ready for the structure of school. Shes been in preschool before and although the teachers told me she was one of the best behaved children she didnt seem much interested. Ill look into the rolling admission thanks.

This was my outlook at first but I don't have the money to put my child in preschool "just for fun". 250 bucks a week???? its not worth it. Im a pretty young mother of a couple of grls (early twenties) and struggling phd student. i might just have to start to take them to class with me everyday like i used to.

Here is a thread on schools with rolling enrollments. Maybe you can bump it to the top of the forum for more feedback.

You might be eligible for some FA, too, since you're in school. You should look into that.

If you don't raise them to spell, capitalize, and understand the accepted forms of writing in English (and you'll find this a real challenge because clearly you can't do it yourself) they're going to be settling for a lot less in life than you hope for them. Seriously, based on your own writing you can't possibly be a good judge of academic quality. You wouldn't recognize Strunk & White ("The Elements of Style") if it jumped up and bit you in the face.

This is a joke, right? How do you home-school a 4 yo? Most preschools, unless they're montessoris, are really play-based.
