Noticed a little bit of what looks like blood on toiled paper after DD (5) wiped

Anonymous
My DD asked me to come in and look at the toiled paper after she wiped after peeing. It looks like blood on the toilet paper - not much. She is 5.

Has anyone else had this happen with their younger DD? I can call her pediatrician but I try to limit some of my questions because I don't want to be labeled a "worrier". Thanks!

Is she having any other pain, burning, urgency to go, fever, cramping, etc.? If so, call her ped. If not, is it possible she's been wiping herself a bit too roughly and has given herself a bit of an abrasion? If you're both comfortable with it, I might do a quick inspection to see if you can see the source of the bleeding.

I think that's the kind of issue that warrants a call to the ped.

Thanks PP. We just did a Fried Green Tomatoes session and looked together. I don't see any signs of obvious irritation etc - she might be a bit overzealous with her wiping. I will keep an eye on things and might bring her in to the doctor to make sure it isn't an infection and that nothing more serious is going on.

And for those that want to ask but haven't yet, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that no foul play has occurred.

OP again. Definitely will call the pediatrician tomorrow.

You can get chapped in that area, then get a little blood from wiping.

Also, when I was young (pre-period), I fell on a bar on the jungle gym and got a spot of bright red blood when I wiped later.

It could be a bladder infection, or maybe it's just extra wiping or sensitivity.

FWIW, I had an irritation to bubble bath when I was that age and would get swollen "down there." Don't remember if I had any blood, though.

Probably nothing serious but definitely worth looking into. Seems most likely it's either from a minor cut or perhaps a bladder infection (though I would expect some pain if that's the case).

I'd call the ped, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. She might have just had s slightly larger than average bowel movement earlier. This happened to our DD (2) at one point and we FREAKED out and called the ped. He said that a little bit of blood after such a movement is not at all uncommon. It happens to adults, too, we just don't often check.

Does this not happen to you all on occasion? It happens to me with some regularity and the doc said it happens to everyone and is nothing to worry about assuming there are no other symptoms

DH was home with DD when she used the bathroom buy it wasn't a BM it was a pee. Hoping it is a one-off thing but I will follow-up with her ped.

This happens to my DD (age 2) with most BMs. Pediatrician says it is ok and DD has no discomfort so we stopped worrying about it.

PP are you saying that your DD has blood from her vaginal area after a BM? Or from her rear end?

OP, I would go ahead and call your led. you should never allow fear of their perceptions stop you from calling when you're unsure about some thing affecting your child. sometimes a seemingly innocuous symptom can be a warning sign for something much worse.

That said, constipation is a frequent cause of blood on wiping. If the poop is hard and large (as constipated poop tends to get), it can cause lie tears in the rectum. especially now that it's hotter, it's easier for kids to get dehydrated, which can result in constipation.

Are her fingernails long? Could she have scratched herself?

OP here. Her fingernails are long! Could be a scratch.

The blood was nor from her rectum. It was not a BM. It was from a pee. It looked like faint spotting on the toilet paper.
