| My DS's daycare is requiring everyone to get a strep test because they've had a few cases. Is this normal? It costs $25 for a well visit and my child is not even sick! The daycare says someone could be a "carrier" and transmitting it to other children. |

That is not normal in my exeperience.
And, frankly, strep is really contagious. I don't think testing everyone is enough to keep it from sweeping through. That happened at our daycare and house last fall...highly unpleasant! |

My daycare recommended it - but did not require it when we were in the same situation.
It worked at well for us as my DD was just coming down with it and we got antibiotics before heading out for a vacation. You can get a test at a minute clinic. |
My guess is some child has gotten strep more than once and their pediatrician recommended to the parent to ask the daycare that everyone get tested. Your child might be asymptomatic - have it but not show signs. Undiagnosed strep can be dangerous. |
