s/o on lunatic co-worker

Anonymous
i posted a couple of months ago about my crazy co-worker who told me she didn't like me because she "didn't like the way i walked around like i was all that."
it is clear she is jealous of me--same old tired light skinned, long-hair nonsense.

well, she has esclated it. she has now poisoned a couple of others against me with her lies. someone else has now stated she hates me (behind my back) and i have never said or done anything to these women. today crazy broad #1 was holding the door open for someone she likes and then slammed it in the face of another colleague and told people she "hates that b****.

on one hand i was relieved i'm not the only one she's focused on but it is getting out of control. she obviously has serious anger management issues and she is a big, overweight woman and therefore intimidating.

What would you do? I work in a place that doens't have an HR department onsite and our boss refuses to get involved in the workplace drama.

Sounds crazy and disturbing. You could potentially sue your employer for this hostile work environment

Do you have HR at a headqurters office somewhere else? If so, get in touch with them. I don't think what you're talking about would be a protected category based on my understanding of EEO laws, and hostile work environment usually comes down to pervasive sexism, not a clique of co-workers who don't like you because of your appearance. I'm no employment lawyer though.

OP,

I read your original post some months ago, so I get where you're coming from. This co-worker of yours is definitely someone to avoid.

However, please don't use disparaging terms ("crazy broad #1") in your descriptions because it really undermines your credibility. Don't show by look or by word that your think ill of her. You want your coworkers to know that you are totally "clean and above board".

For online forums, you should leave out the fact that she's overweight, even though it does pertain to the matter at hand because of how intimidating she can be, just because people on DCUM are very sensitive about girth. Also avoid hinting upfront that you are slim and pale-skinned and that is why she is jealous of you. Do you understand how these add-ons to your post attract snarky comments?

In short, know your audience. It's important professionally as well. You don't want to appear paranoid and unbalanced when complaining to your boss. Perhaps you have already done so, in a less than objective way, and that is why your boss declines to interfere?

thank you for this. since it;s an annonymous forum i posted how i really feel and think but i get what you are saying. i have not brought this up to my boss and at work i am continue to be pleasant and professional to all. i was annoyed at first but now i tell her good morning (even though she ignores me) like i do to all i pass in the hall. when people tell me how she talks about me behind my back i tell them i know this is her own issue and i pray for her and send her love and light because honestly being filled with anger was bringing me down. she stays in an angry mode clearly due to her own issues. as far as me being so thin and gorgeous, this is not at all the case. i am old and have about 25 pounds to lose myself.

i guess i could contact someone in another buildling to see what can be done because honestly she is making life very, very unpleasant. she doesnt' have to like me but i feel uncomfortable around her for sure. i wouldn't be surprised if one day she lost control and hit me.

If you send your boss an email saying that she is harassing you (you believe because of your race), you are concerned about her volitile behavior and are worried about your safety and others safety, he will most likely get the company's lawyers involved, at the very least, unless he's a total moron. However, this could have repercussions for you. Just depends on how intolerable she's making your working environment.

By your boss avoiding this "workplace drama", s/he is condoning it and sounds like a moron. If you do believe this woman is targeting you because of race, you could file a complaint with EEO (or if in DC, Office of Human Rights). If you file, also consider if other people in this clique are all similar race or have other similar characteristics (all similar age group but you aren't, all same religion but you aren't, you have a disability, etc.), because those could also be reasons.

What lies do you think she is telling? She seems to be upfront with you about why she doesn't like you....

This is not a racial issue as we are the same race. My boss is the same as well.i guess I will wait until something further happens to bring it up.. Tis is ser taint nit worth the EEOC getting involved..
