Dog Beaches? or creeks/lakes?

Any in the DC/VA/MD area? Would love to find a spot where dogs can be off-leash. And without having to worry about too much about water safety issues. Thanks!

No one ever takes their dogs to the water here?! So bummed not to get any ideas...we are new to the area and wanted to do some exploring this weekend with our pup, but didn't want to head to an area that would frown upon having him there. Any suggestions?

there is a little beach on Roosevelt Island where dogs go off-leash (illegally FYI)

or any secluded part of the trails along the Potomac - just put back on leash if you see anyone (again illegal)

quiet waters is a legal dog beach in annapolis

shirlington dog park in Arlington has access to 4 mile run stream - with a deep section for swimming. not sure about water quality there though. give your pup a bath after for sure.

also glencarlyn dog park in Arlington has a little stream

duck, nc is very dog friendly - dogs allowed on the beach anytime

and I think there is a farm or winery way out in VA that has a pond for dogs to swim in - blanking on the name though...

Thank you! This is so helpful. I was also doing a quick search and stumbled upon Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena, MD...anyone ever been there? is it worth the drive?

Downs is pretty small. I'd recommend quiet waters over downs. Plus Annapolis restaurants are very patio dog friendly if you want to make a day of it!

I think people let their dogs off leash to run in the water at 4 mile run in Arlington

Anyone ever been to Matapeake Park in Stevensville, MD?

Looking at the Quiet Waters website...looks like there is a fenced dog park, but is there also a dog beach area? or are they together and I just misread the site? Thanks!

Just googled it myself - the beach is in Downs Park, not Quiet Waters. Quiet Waters is the dog park.

There was a dog beach there but it looks like it closed due to erosion.

Quiet waters dog beach was great but closed years ago. There are many lakes where people do not swim and the leash laws are not enforced--Seneca creek lake is one but there are others. There is a beach right across the bay bridge where dogs are allowed--it's not great for humans (lots of trash when we went there). Also, some of the Maryland state parks allow dogs--calvert cliffs or flag pond does and is a pretty decent beach. Some allow them only off season--so sandy point allows them after oct 1 and before either may 1 or June 1. There's a chart explaining which allow when on the Maryland state park website. Also, one of the beaches at assoteague allows dogs--I can never remember which one.
Also, a lot of local pools do a dog swim the day after labor day before draining the pools for the winter.
