there is a dog beach in annapolis. don't recall the name but i have been there. |
PP you're probably thinking of quiet waters in annaPolis, which closed like 5 years ago. Have you been to one in Annapolis in the last few years? (other than sandy point off season) |
I am not sure. It was a tiny strip of "beach" accessible by a pretty steep path/trail and it was many years ago. I am not sure how you could "close" it. |
That's disgusting. And I am a dog owner. At the nicer beaches, dogs are definitely not allowed during in-season. |

GROSS. No thank you. |
There isn't even any natural water for humans in this area, much less for dogs. |
We take our dog swimming in Patapsco State Park in MD in the river. It's not officially sanctioned but we keep her on a 50 foot lead and find an empty area. You need to find a spot like that |
Disgusting? How so? |
Because I don't care to sit in the dog crap you covered with sand, because you are too GD lazy to pick it up. The only animals I want to see on a public beach (or whatever the beaches used by the rentals are) are maybe seagulls and whatever belongs in the ocean. Dogs don't need to be on a beach, barking and disrupting everyone who is trying to enjoy a quiet vacation. I know OBX doesn't exactly attract the classiest people, but have a minimal amount of consideration. Unless it is your own private beach, keep your damn dog at home like the rest of us, snowflake. |
Wow - you feel pretty strongly about it even though you've never actually been to Duck. No dog poop. And dogs are mostly not out on the beach during the peak heat of the day in the summer. All of the owners we saw were considerate. The beaches aren't crowded like they are in the Northeast. It's not my favorite beach (gritty sand, rough water, steep incline), but it is great if you want to bring your dog. There are plenty of dog-free beaches. Take your pick. |
Dewey beach is dog friendly. Off season they can be on the beach anytime. In the summer I think it's before 9am and after 5pm. I have never seen dog poop on the sand, they have poop bags at every beach entrance, and trash cans. There is a leash law hut it is not really enforced especially off season. Been going there for years and always let my dogs off, 90% of the dogs are off leash off season. |
Matapeake beach is great, but you will need a pass so call ahead of time to find out where to get one. Quiet Waters is closed indefinitely. I also think there's a lake with a dog swimming area somewhere near Charlottesville. Matapeake is the best one I've been to though!lots of space and separate from the people side. Skip Downs, the park itself is nice, but the dog part is dirty & small. |
Love Matapeake. It used to be free, but now that they charge I have noticed that the areas are cleaner and generally much more pleasant. Great beach for people and dogs! |
I have been to to Duck. It is certainly not worth the ride; and certainly not if there are dogs there. I don't care to share the beach with your dog, no matter how special you think he is (how special you think you are) . It's just gross. There are much nicer beaches that do not allow dogs, for very good reason. Educate yourself and get back to me. |
