Good Mexican restaurant?

Anonymous
Hi friends coming in from out of town ,they are coming with 2 young adults children (18 and 20). They want a really good Mexican or second choice Italian restaurant...what do you think? We are not big on Mexican so have no idea what to recommend? They tend to like more upscale places.

DC doesn't really have good Mexican. That said, El Centro on 14th or in Georgetown is good.

So I'm the person that said Oyamel, and I have to say I agree - DC isn't a a good destination for Mexican food (there just aren't very many Mexicans here). I would steer thndm towards a different cuisine.

Oyamel is a nice restaurant though. Sure they wouldn't be disappointed with it.

Not iRicchi. Osteria Morini? Casa Luca?

Oyamel and El Centro are the best Mexican restaurants (I've found) in this area. If they go to Oyamel, tell them to try the margaritas with the salt foam.

What do they mean by Mexican food? If they are thinking Tex mex they will not like DC options. Now there are some true Mexican restaurants, but it's not what most people will think of as Mexican. Mexico is a big place with different foods.

Upscale Italian would be a way better option in these parts.
