I'm very lucky to be moving to an 80% telework schedule and can dictate which day of the week I need to be in the office.
My initial thought was Friday- it's a very slow, quiet day and I can wear jeans. However, I normally slug, but Fridays usually have a longer wait, especially returning home, since I assume many people are off that day and therefore there are fewer drivers. Typically not an issue but I have to be home to take my daughter to gymnastics at 430. But...that Friday schedule may change to another day depending on what level she moves to. Is it best to just keep Friday as my in-office day and maybe just take metro home for more reliability (can't believe I just said metro is more reliable!) or should I move it to another day? |
| I'd pick a day where you'd maximize your opportunities to do face-to-face meetings with other people. I'd probably choose a Tuesday or a Wednesday. |
OP here. I actually don't have meetings with people! On the rare occasion...like several times a year. My customers are all over the U.S. and everyone else is doing telework too so people are scattered about. |
| I come in on Wednesdays, and I enjoy it. Although I don't meet much, it is nice to run into people every once in a while. |
Oh, and I would never choose Mondays or Fridays. Mondays I'm just not ready for it. And personal things come up often on Fridays, so it is best to be done as early as possible and have more flexibility. |

It will be really unique for each company/office/team. It definitely is best to be there on the day you have the most meetings/face-to-face time. I wouldn't pick Friday for sure.
On my team, Mondays are the big meeting day, so that would be the best. And I figure - it's done and over early in the week, so for me that would be nice. I'd recommend picking what will be best for your career, not for your personal schedule. With an 80% telework schedule, you already have a pretty good setup. |

OP here. Sorry, I realized I should've put more info in my original post.
We don't have meetings on a regular basis; that's the reason my division is able to do that much telework. In fact, the only reason we're required to come in at all is that it affects our pay (federal office so duty stations/pay locality come into play). We have team meetings perhaps once or twice a year and of course, people come in for that as needed. I am the only one in my division who works on a particular issue so if I had a meeting on that subject, I'd just be meeting with myself

Okay, then do whatever you want. Why ask here?? |
NP but she is asking because is she is wondering if people think one day is better than another or whether other people would commit to a particular day on the basis of a class that might change or a slightly iffier commute, and then she'll take that thought into consideration when she decides what to do. |
Totally agree with this. |
| I wouldn't choose Mondays or Fridays because we frequently want to take a longer weekend and those are the days I take off. |
| Wednesday or Thursday's are the best days to be at the office at our OGC. |

I agree with mid week. Even though you don't meet with people, coworkers are Linley to take Mondays and Fridays off, especially in the summer months, so if you're looking for Face time at all, you're more likely to meet that need mid week.
For me, I like Tuesdays. The Monday junk is done with, and everyone is forging to the week. This gives enough time towards the end of the week for follow up on anything while it's still fresh, rather than having a weekend in between. |

FWIW, I've noticed that traffic is heavier on Thursdays than on Tues or Wed. I've never been able to figure out why, but it's definitely something I've observed.

| I would pick Wednesday to break up the week. |
