AAP Program - Parents Rights

My son is in the AAP program in 4th grade at a Fairfax County Elementary School. I know that one of my rights is the school cannot kick him out of the program. What are my other rights as an AAP parent? I cannot find anyone online.
Thanks.

I'm just going to guess that you're a massive pain in the ass.

Parents have no rights other than to see the file. The child has some rights.

What specific rights are you looking for? If you are reasonable and your kids are behaving, I don't see why you need to be asking this question. The fact that you are is saying something though.....

The school cannot "kick him out of the program" per se, but if there are disciplinary issues, then that's a whole different question. If you are pupil placed for AAP, and have issues, then you are still subject to those rules. As far as AAP itself, you need to dig through FCPS Policies and regulations in order to find what you are looking for. Ask a more specific question and you might get a more specific answer here, otherwise just call the FCPS office in charge of Advanced Academics and they can help you.

You mean the right to choose which school your son attends, and then have free busing provided isn't enough for you? It's a choice Gen Ed kids don't get. That doesn't seem inequitable to you?

Thanks for personifying so accurately the image of AAP parents most of us have.

PP - Why are you jumping to conclusions in condemning OP for an issue, attitude and image which hasn't been confirmed?

If this doesn't answer your question, perhaps you could be more specific about what "rights" you want or expect - http://www.fcps.edu/dss/ips/ssaw/SRR/2014-15SSR.pdf

In some states there is a gifted IEP (FL).

In VA there is no such thing.

OP, a previous poster gave you the link to the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook which will give you useful information about general rights, rights of students with IEPs etc. but does not mention AAP by name as far as I could find.

I suggest you read that link but then also contact the Advanced Academics office for FCPS: http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/directory.shtml

That link shows you the contact number. If you have exhausted your discussions with the school itself you can try the AA office. I would expect that office to ask you first if you have done certain things with your child's school before they get involved.

My child is about to be done with AAP (about to start HS) but in the six years he's been in it, I have never heard of a child being "kicked out" per se so it's hard for me to picture what you mean. But I do know of kids whose parents moved them out of it for other reasons, such as the child not being motivated to do the work and the parents choosing to leave AAP, or the child just not clicking with the AAP center school and moving back to a base school nearer home, etc. Since we don't know your specific circumstances -- you should ask FCPS.
