AAP Program - Parents Rights

Anonymous
Does your child have ADHD or some other learning issue that doesn't rise to the level that warrants an IEP? If so, you can look into a 504 plan, which would provide for various accommodations. I know a child whose teacher kept recommending that she be moved back to the base school but the parents refused, so I think it is up to the parents. I know you may not want to give too much info, but a little bit more info might get you better answers.

Thanks.

You mean the right to choose which school your son attends, and then have free busing provided isn't enough for you? It's a choice Gen Ed kids don't get. That doesn't seem inequitable to you?

Thanks for personifying so accurately the image of AAP parents most of us have.

PP - Why are you jumping to conclusions in condemning OP for an issue, attitude and image which hasn't been confirmed?

You're kidding, right? OP's post says it all.

NP: teacher suggested moving kid out of AAP because teacher felt child could do better. In GENERAL We politely declined the suggestion. DC is in algebra 1 HN n 7th grade. No tutoring, teacher just wanted my child to behave differently. Child is easily distracted, but not disruptive. Can a school force a child out of AAP? I think Not!

Just tell the school thank you, but no thanks

+1

Talk to the school counselor and complete a general referral form, and request a child study.

This sounds downplayed. "In general". "Easily distracted but not disruptive". If he is in algebra 1 with no tutoring and isn't bring disruptive, can you be specific as to what he is doing? Feel like we aren't getting a complete picture.
