Churchill School Newspaper - 1/4 of students believe cheating is morally acceptable

I think they need to be applauded.

At least they don't act totally righteous and say they would never do it.

Definitely from liberal families.

Hey, my kid knows says he knows of 2 classmates, from conservative families, who get copies of weekly tests in math and the sciences camouflaged in the form of a study guide.
Apparently they are coming from an administrator who is equally conservative and a proud born again.
We are not in MoCo.

...and we are surprised why?

The sense of entitlement comes from the parents.

Besides how else you can compete with the super hardworking group that is often mocked here?

One of the best things about my big three school - strong honor code that students respected and followed. I have never cheated. Ever.

+1

Yea, I'm not sure why it's news. There was that other article out of the CHS paper where parents were excusing kids from taking final exams. So, yea, the parents are enablers. Entitlement begets entitlement.

This might be these kids one day:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/28/living/texas-am-professor-fails-class-feat/index.html

"In the email to students, KPRC reported, Horwitz said: "I have seen cheating, been told by students to 'chill out,' 'get out of my space,' 'go back and teach' refuse to leave the room after being told to do so following inappropriate conduct, called a 'f*****g moron' several times by a student to my face...""

only 1/4 ? I think most would try to cheat if they can get away with it --- this is not just for CHS, Cheating is a common human nature !

The data isn't that 1/4 cheat, it's that 1/4 think that cheating is morally acceptable. There's a difference.

Do you seriously not understand the difference between the attitudes "I cheat because I feel pressured into it but I know it's wrong" and "cheating is fine"?

Also are you the crazy UMD poster from the college forum? You have similar grammatical skills. And your endorsement of cheating does not make the school look good...

"You have similar grammatical skills" ?

English is my 3rd language, I don't have good skills.

Oh please, save it!

Didn't read the article but knew people that graduated from there.

And boy some of them were big cheaters and scam artists.

Now some of them are successful business owners and CEOs who have been profiled in the news. And I think it's funny when people say that they have strong morals and ethics.

So am not surprised if the article says that students there cheat.

Lots of people don't cheat because they feel it is wrong to cheat. I could never be happy with a grade I got through cheating.

It may be human nature to cheat, but it is the job of the parents and the school to teach kids that it is wrong. There are lots of impulses we have because we are human, but we need to learn right from wrong and develop self-control as we mature.
