Is there any help from Shepherd Elementary, PTA, or other with preparing for PK3 next Fall?

It looks like there's some information on the school website but an orientation or equivalent would be better.

There was a "Pop in and Preview" event last year for PK3 families; I think in late May. Look for an email in the next few weeks. There was also a play date event organized by the school in August for PK3 and PK4 families.

I'm sure if you contact the school main office or the PTA they'll be receptive to answering any questions you have before then.

Welcome!

Schools are dealing with enrollment, budget and staffing for next year along with running the school daily. Information about next year is something that happens in the summer months.

Great opportunity for you to step up and help the PTA organize this.

PTA is also busy planning their annual spring gala/auction. You should go!

Please attend one of the community events. Shepherd is a wonderful little school. We left to attend a language immersion charter school but I do miss my Shepherd family.

Yes, come to the gala! You'll find dozens of people to answer any question you want answered. And alcohol!

The gala will be Sat. 5/16 in the Wilson atrium. Salsa theme! More info here:

Is there a school or PTA listserv that newly enrolled families can join?

That might not be the exact URL to get there (crazy Yahoo!) but you can see the name if you need to search for it.

For those of you new to your school, please don't just take welcoming emails/events for granted - or feel entitled to them. There are parent volunteers and in some cases school staff that are spending time putting this stuff together for you. As someone who contacted new families earlier this week and has yet to have any of them acknowledge the effort or say TY, it's off-putting to say the least. So when you do attend the whatever event your school puts on, please say thank you and show some appreciation.

Off my soapbox.

Off my soapbox.

We recently enrolled our DC for kindergarten at Shepherd. We're excited to join the school, and signed up for the PTA listserv, but we haven't received any welcoming emails or info about events. We certainly would have responded with thanks if we did.

Nothing bugs me as much as people who do things for thanks. You should do it because you want to not for the gratitude.
