Homework

How much homework does your son or daughter get at your HRCS? Just wondering because my IB does not assign homework until 3rd grade. Is this the same at the HRCSs? I'm especially interested in the language immersion ones such as LAMB, MV, Stokes, YY?

Is your IB DCPS a language immersion school?

OP here: no it is not. It's a great school but it is not language immersion. I really like the no homework until grade 3 rule, and wondered if any HRCSs had a similar policy.

And yes I know I have no chance of getting in for PK4, but would still like to know just the same.

Ok, but why only language immersion charters? You aren't interested in the homework policies of CM, IT and Two Rivers? Are you hoping to get your child into an immersion charter?

OP which DCPS has no homework until 3rd grade?

ITS starts at 1st grade: one homework (math) packet consisting of about 5 pages (2-4 questions per page) handed out Monday expected back Friday. It works out to be 3-5 math questions per night. They also recommend at least 10-20 minutes of reading per night. My DC finishes it all first day or two. Also, the packets are based on your child's current math group. Not sure about the amount after 1st.

MV K - 3 mini books a weekend(varying in difficulty by reading level ability) plus a poem that they read sing all week long so it is familiar to the student. very easy breezy and has helped with reading at home.

How do you know what your First or Second Grader is doing in school on a daily basis without access to homework, or whether she is being challenged sufficiently or not mastering basic concepts? You should speak with teachers who think that lack of homework is shortsighted. Homework ca instill a work ethic and time management skills as the load increases. it doesn't need to be overwhelmingly lower grades. Just a few minutes of spelling, writing sentences and ASIC math facts.

I believe that no Montessori school assigns homework in the lower grades.

SWS 1st grade does not have homework. I know how my child is doing because the teachers are extremely accessible.

Homework at Yu Ying starts in Kindergarten. A packet a week. character practice, math, and English. Reading is 10 min a day in English and 10'min a day in Chinese. In first grade it goes up to 20 minutes in English and 20 minutes a day in Chinese. So it is about an hour total which is a lot!
