Homework

My 2nd and 5th graders at YY have never spent anywhere near an hour a night until a few times this year with the 5th grader. Off topic: it's going to be a miserable transition for the 5th grader to real homework next year.

No homework at our Montessori, but my K student will happily read for anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours every night.

Mann does not have homework in 1st. We just fill out a reading log and there is a math worksheet every other week or so.

Mann's math non-proficiency is 6 percent. Brent's is 24 percent. Mann's reading non-proficiency is 10 percent. Brent's is more than 20 percent.

I had hours of stupid busy work at my horrible catholic school from kindergarten onwards. I'd rather my kid not deal with that. It doesn't sound like any of the schools mentioned have this issue though.

I'm not the previous poster, but Shining Stars has no homework in the primary classrooms. There is apparently weekly homework (no idea what it entails) in the lower elementary room.

20:04 YY poster. I am including the 40 min of reading in the total hour or so. 50-60 min would be more accurate in total.

Stokes parent here: homework starts in K. My 3rd grader gets a packet each week which includes roughly, 3 English activities and 3 target language activities (reading a story answering questions plus spelling words); plus daily math assignments; and at least 45 minutes of reading each night. It's a lot, but we have a system now and we do get the weekend to complete the packets. We get them Monday and they are due next Monday.
