Just got back. There were at least 10, maybe 12-15 stores closed. Not just small retailers, but also big ones like Verizon, Cinnabon, and Burger King. All remaining stores were empty save the Apple store, which was packed.
How about in your area? What has closed down? Let's do a DC area inventory. |
Linens N Things at Friendship Heights |
The Expo Design Center behind Montgomery Mall is closing, as are all the Expo stores nationwide.
It would be great if some of the three dozen stores there that sell clothing for the 23-and-under set would close. There are way too many of them. |
OP here.
Don't get me wrong. I hate that mall. It's loud and full of teeny boppers. But I feel kind of bad for all the people there. I'm going to start a new post on this general topic with a better title. |
All of those closed, too. |
The Right Start store at Washingtonian/Rio in Gaithersburg closed. I am very sad about that. |
And the one in Reston |
Pier One on Conn. Ave north of Van Ness |
On Rockville Pike:
Eastern Motors the custard place (whatever that was called) Eatzi's (been closed for a while now) a gas station lots of places that are empty but I'm not even sure what was in them |
Not many vacant storefronts in Dupont. Looks to me like the shops that had closed recently along Connecticut Avenue have been replaced. Adams Morgan and Woodley Park are doing ok. |
Eastern Motors moved to a new location on Shady Grove and The Custard place closes every winter. Will be open again soon! I think a lot of the gas stations shut down every so many years to be dug out and re-constructed. They all do this. |
The custard place and the gas station both had "For Lease" signs. I know the custard place used to shut down every winter. Trust me, I was a bit too big of a fan ![]() I'm glad Easterns moved and didn't just shut down. There was another car dealer that closed near Easterns. Also, a few places near Penzey's, but I forgot what was there. |
3 restaurant closings in Dupont. Only one has been replaced so far, new Vietnamese place. |
Tour Grill closed but that happened a while ago. |
Columbia Heights hasn't filled all the spaces in the new Target shopping center. But the only ones in central CH that have opened and then closed again were Cinnabon and Carvel. Well, there was a coffee place that closed, but the same owners shut it down to re-tool, and opened again in like two weeks, as a sushi restaurant which is doing ok. |
