Montgomery Mall Is a Freaking Bloodbath!

It is sad to see all these stores having to shut down, sadder yet to see all those people out of work.

I just heard, popeyes in Kingstowne is closed. And my husband told me the wendys coming out of National Airport towards old town is gone. I dont get out and about much, but I know the last time I went to Springfield mall, there were a lot of stores shutting down. I did notice the indoor play area by the food court at Springfield mall was gone the last time I went to.

Any updates of stores closing down around here? I just got back from overseas and there were lots having closing/liquidation sales.

I live in Springfield and didn't know about the Popeyes. That surprises me because ever since they opened all those restaurants that area has been so packed. Springfield Mall is closing it's stores, but it's because they're renovating. It's going to be a town center. http://www.springfieldtowncenter.com/

So what's going on in Virginia?

Business is booming in Tyson's Corner.
I haven't noticed any stores closed in the mall, it's always busy, and traffic is still a nightmare!
Can't wait til the metro gets here, I'm sure that'll solve all our problems.

The World Market is out now, as is Linens N Things. The Au Bon Pain near my Tysons Corner office building cut back on its hours because of a decline in sales. I wouldn't be surprised if Tysons was hit further - it is not immune to the economic decline.

Filene's is in a terrible location in Tysons. The parking lot is a hassle and Best Buy was there but moved. retailer should be on the opposite side of the 123 intersection and is better off between Koons and the best buy. The service road set up was great and gerry connelly and Co have wrecked that. The metro through Tysons is silly since many people will still drive to Tysons because it will take longer to drive to a train stop and there won't be parking. Many who work in Tysons live in Vienna, Mclean, Falls Church, great Falls, close in reston /Herndon. Who will take the train? You also won't be able to park in Tysons and take a train to Dulles Airport or DC.

That may be so but for people like me who live by a metro stop in DC, we might start coming to Tysons again. I haven't been to Tysons in years because there's no way I'm going to deal with the traffic -- plus I can go to Pentagon City and Friendship Heights via metro so why bother going to Tysons? So I'm psyched about the metro going to Tysons. But then I probably still won't go more than once a year so I don't know if bringing in more people like me will help enough.

Not at the Galleria - I think the book store closed, among other things. In fact, I think the owner of the Galleria filed for bankruptcy protection, but most of the stores will remain open.

I'm with 15:30. I'd Metro to Tyson's from DC very occasionally. Under current circumstances, I go maybe once a year, so I guess I'd go just a little more often, but it is still beyond the pale for me.

I expect the real benefit would be for the office workers, assuming they don't live well beyond Metro's reach. My DH worked out there for a year and really suffered from the commute, even though his was a reverse commute. Metro should reduce rush hour traffic for this reason.
