The basement has windows, but not much natural light. Thanks!

NP here. Do you think it could work with a muted bronzy gold sofa?

Yes! Monterey White is a very light very subtle tan. You'll feel like you're not adding much color to the walls but when you're done painting you'll notice a nice warmth. We have white trim with it.

Thanks! Does it look anything like this picture? I realize this pic has a lot of light coming in, which your basement probably doesn't.

I would not go with a white, especially not an off-white, for a room that doesn't get sun. It may end up looking gray. Our north-facing living room was like that and we didn't like it at all. Changed it to BM Soleil (a yellow) and love it. I realize a lot of people think yellow is awful, so I'm not suggesting that to you (it works very well for the style of our house - old craftsman - and our furniture colors), but I would go with a light warm color of some sort.

We did Silver Marlin and are very happy with it.

+1 That's the color we used in our previous den. We loved it, but your post is the first time I've heard it mentioned on this site.

Some people like grey though?

How will you be using the space? Rec room? What furniture will go in there? What flooring? What type of mood - playful, serene, get drunk?

We did Ivory tusk - a very pale cream/yellow. LOVE IT. Our basement also gets no light.

Painting something grey intentionally is different than a room looking grey b/c of lack of light. Painting a basement that doesn't get a lot of light grey I don't think would be a good idea in any case.

Paper white - looked beautiful in our lightless basement
