Seattle gray is lovely in my small basement.

Our north-facing living room was like that and we didn't like it at all. Changed it to BM Soleil (a yellow) and love it. I realize a lot of people think yellow is awful, so I'm not suggesting that to you (it works very well for the style of our house - old craftsman - and our furniture colors), but I would go with a light warm color of some sort.

Some people like grey though?

Painting something grey intentionally is different than a room looking grey b/c of lack of light. Painting a basement that doesn't get a lot of light grey I don't think would be a good idea in any case.

Exactly.

Try windham cream in 25% or 50%.

I have Windham Cream in several rooms, including the basement, and I really like it. But to the PP, what's the effect of lightening it by 25 or 50%? We're moving soon and is like to use it again so just curious. Did a designer help you with the lightening or did you just test it out yourself?

Bump. NP here. I have a dark grey basement rug and basically no outdoor light. I want a recommendation for a white to brighten up the room and make it as light as possible. Any suggestions in addition to what PPs have recommended? Thanks.

I think that this is a really nice combination: https://paintersplaceblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/calming-basement.png?w=479

Does it look anything like this? Not my style, but it definitely works: http://www.pureenergyteam.com/images/celery-a_690.jpg

I don't know. I think that as long as you have good lighting, that it can work. I think this is a nice look, although I would want some bluer light for this room rather than the yellow lighting that they have.

We used Diamond White. We have a tile that has a subtle blue color to it and the combo is fabulous.
