| We are going in July. We're looking for a 4 to 5 star hotel, & activities. So far, I'm a bit turned off by the high daily resort fees. |
|
There is more than one San Juan. Which one, OP?
|
| Sorry. Puerto Rico |
|
Been there but stayed in a cheap family style place on the bay side with no amenities. You'll need a high end resort if you want easy beach access. Hence the high resort fees.
Are you looking only for resort recs, or recs in general? |
Definitely want resort/beach access. Everything 'touristy'
|
| I've never stayed in a resort without a resort fee. |
| The Marriott Stellaris looks nice. |
|
In San Juan, the Ritz Carlton, Intercontinental (not as hig end buy nice beach and well run) and the Marriot are the best.
the Marriot is in Condado and does not have as nice a beach as the other two. The el San Juan is terrible, It is poorly run and the rooms ar tiny. |
| If you are not restricted to San Juan, I'd highly recommend The Ritz Carlton in Dorado Beach. It's a Ritz Carlton Reserve. My father-in-law is a member of the golf/beach club, so we've rented houses and used the facilities there, including the spa. It is a beautiful location and the facilities are top-notch. I have not stayed in the hotel rooms, but the pictures look wonderful. It's extremely expensive, but you said you were in the market for a 4-5 star property, so perhaps price is no object. This hotel is the best you will find in Puerto Rico. |
| PP here. Depending on the size of your family, you may want to check VRBO.com for houses on the Ritz Carlton Reserve property. They are less expensive than the per night/per room cost of a hotel and you can purchase a one or two week "membership" to use the pools and golf courses. It's a wonderful option if you have a large family or have small children or elderly grandparents who may want to go back to the house in the middle of the day for a nap. |
| Concur with PP. AVOID the El San Juan. |
We stayed here before a southern caribbean cruise and it was very nice. I am not sure there is enough to do here for a full vacation unless you trek off and do some tours like the rainforest and definitely the night kayaking tours in Fajardo. |
| We stayed at La Concha in Condado- great choice. We had dinner at Jose Andres' restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Reserve in Dorado and it was absolutely gorgeous there, but we could never afford it. |
OP here. I was thinking about Laconcha as wel.l it is also a Marriott property. either that or the Stellis. |
PP here. La Concha is in Condado, which is a good neighborhood for shopping and restaurants, plus the beach is there. I will have to try to remember the name of the awesome sushi restaurant nearby...Buddathai maybe? The hotel is nice/modern and the lobby bar seemed to attract lots of people that weren't even staying there. There is a casino but we never went because we had our baby with us. (It's not overrun with kids at all, we just wanted to be at a cool hotel since we couldn't actually go out at night
