What do parents think about Stuart Hobson vs Hardy? Which is preferred if given a choice. Thanks in advance!!
|
| I like both. |
| Hardy because it feeds Wilson. Worse commute from most parts of the city, though. |
| I don't know anyone faced with this choice, but if it were me I think I'd choose Hardy because of Wilson. |
| Op Here. Well.. we are new here and since we got a 4th grade spot for Watkins and since they are fixing it up with modernization..I'm happy with that but any day we could possibly get a call for key since she's number 1 for on the W/L.. According to greatschools it's a better school and she has a bus that will take her bUT it is far away.. Watkins is closer. She has a sibling at basis but I don't know.. from reading here, not all students are good for basis and I don't know if she will be ready for that caliber after a year..she takes forever to do just 4 math problems at night.. I could not imagine 30. So.. I guess if she doesn't improve I need to leave options open so I'm trying to decide watkins, that feeds to SH.. which someone says was a good school or Key which feeds to hardy. (If we get a call from Key) I appreciate the opinions. |
| We probably won't be here for HS tho. We will move by HS. |
| I would go to Key. It's a better school than Watkins at the moment, and the modernization at Watkins isn't scheduled to be finished until after your child leaves (finished in 2017). You can try the lottery again next year; a new middle school, Washington Global, is opening at L'Enfant Plaza this year. I don't know too much about it yet, but from what I heard, It will have a different focus than Basis. Washington Global should be close to you if you are close to Watkins right now, and it will probably have spots open. |
| Wonderful. thank you! |
How'd you wind up #1 on the Key waitlist if you are not inboundary? If you are inboundary, there is no way that Watkins is closer. |
There is no IB wait list for grade 4. |
Oh, right. Got it. You did say 4th grade above. Reading is fundamental. I don't know much about Stuart Hobson, but boy has there been a lot of discussion of Hardy on this board lately. |
| I can't overestimate how great it is to live within walking distance of your school. And if you are close enough to walk to Watkins, there's a decent chance your kid could also walk to middle school at Stuart Hobson. I wouldn't dismiss that in making your decision, especially since high school is not a factor. |
I know w at least 6 key 3rd graders not returning, so expect a call. |
Why so many leaving? |
If you're planning on going private for middle school you need to move at 4th or 5th. It's very difficult to get into a selective school at 6th, there's only a handful of schools that have that as an admissions year. All of the Hardy feeders suffer major attrition at 4th and 5th. |
