Sending a family living in the palisades to cardoso would be the height of idiocy. Not that I would put if past them. |
Cutting Bancroft from Deal and ultimately to Wilson would not be enough to right size Wilson. You'd need to do more. |
Please elaborate on Hardy's "important role in DC politics." What do you mean? |
If it's the de facto Ward 5 and Ward 7 middle school, wouldn't it be smarter for DCPS basically to move the Hardy program to a new middle school that is more conveniently located? Hardy's very popular in these wards, whereas it gets no traction in Ward 3. Meanwhile the folks in far NW who are shut of Deal have been clamoring for a new middle school that matches Deal's program. Otherwise, what's going to happen with the exploding school population in Ward 3 is that more IB students will eventually go to Hardy (with varying degrees of enthusiasm), but the population of Ward 5 and Ward 7 at Hardy will be squeezed down in any case. |
No crazier than the former SW feed to Wilson. |
Red polos and khakis -- think "Target worker uniform" |
You could just change the name of "Brookland MS" to "Hardy MS" and change the name of "Hardy MS " to "No, uniforms, now it is just like Deal, won't y'all please attend?" |
It seems more burgundy than red. |
| No, it's red. |
The city just cut down Wilson's boundary area by a lot. Take a look at the before and after maps in the sticky thread at the top of this forum. The next step, for any intelligent, rational, unbiased policymaker, would be to wait and see what happens over the next few years. See what happens to enrollment and, if needed, make further changes down the road. Only on DCUM are people hysterically calling for more to be done immediately to reduce Wilson's crowding, for what reason, I can never understand. |
Agree 100%. The real reason they continue to advocate without even waiting to see how things pan out is that they feel not enough brown kids were cut out. Let's be honest here. |
| Re: Bancroft and Shepherd neighborhoods--I recently moved in-bounds for one of them, but don't have a full picture of the argument for why they should be removed from Wilson's boundary. Is it geographical distance? Are they the farthest neigborhoods from Wilson? Or have some other reasons been offered? |
This was debated in a big way last summer during the boundary process. Were you not on DCUM back then? I'd tell you to use the search function, but in fairness to you a lot of those threads probably don't come up in the first few pages of the search because they are so old. |
| Compared to other Wilson feeders, they are far from Wilson and close to other high schools. |
