I don't shop at Wegmans but happened to drive by one and needed to pick up a few things so stopped by. Their chicken breast prices were great so I bought a multi pack.
Next day, I take them out of the pack and they have several blood spots on them. More than I have ever seen. They also had big chunks of the white skin/fat on them. I spent a lot of time cutting stuff off of them. I then tried cutting them in half since the breasts were large and the meat was harder to cut through - lots of tendons. Wegmans gets a lot of great reviews, but based on this one experience, it looks like the quality of their chicken is pretty low. Has anyone else experienced this? |
| I just bought a multipack of chicken breasts last week. Seems fine. Maybe you bought a bad "batch." Why don't you return yours? |
| I agree that they aren't great. I do trim them them before using them. |
| good thing about wegmans is that you can return anything you're not happy with. So let them know. Or bring your receipt and just tell them. Wegmans and Trader Joes are both great about that. |
| White fat is the only thing that makes a chicken breast edible. I'm glad they leave some attached. |

I noticed the SAME thing. And so have others:

| The truth is that Wegman's rocks! I suspect this thread was posted by a rival grocery chain worried about the new Kingstowne store stealing business. BTW, the new store opens in June and will seriously put pressure on its competitors. |
Look, I love Wegs as much as anyone. But WTF does this comment have to do with OP's issue? |
| I've been shopping at Wegman's for my entire life, and the quality of the meat definitely went down when they moved to the cryovac packaging. I avoid it. |
| On the other hand, Wegman's organic chicken is very good. |
| I keep detecting a faint odor and the chicken is slimy out of the package. AND there was no use by/freeze by date listed.??? |
| I love Wegmans for everything but meat. For plain chicken or steak, Safeway is usually better. If I want something really good, Whole Foods |
False. it is always there. I check before buying at wegmans. |
| In fairness, commercial chicken breasts have become pretty inedible wherever you buy them. We do thighs any more because of it. |
| I love Wegmans except for meat. Have had multiple bad experiences with their chicken. |
