has hardly moved (one spot). is it likely not to really move until after may 1?
|
I wouldn't expect much before May 1. Are you trying for 5th or 6th? |
| These past years everyone got in. Even in October they still had spots. |
|
Last year all 5th graders got in and they couldnt fill their 6th grade.
|
^^ this. why the hand wringing over space at Basis? and they want to EXPAND
|
BASIS is in its third year and doing well. It will undoubtedly start becoming difficult to get into BASIS for 6th grade without sibling preference. Also, they want to expand down, offering 4th grade down to K, eventually. Many of the kids entering in 5th grade are poorly prepared, and they think that expanding down will help remedy that situation. |
They'd definitely need a new space, which would likely offset much of the appeal of current centrally located facility. then again, maybe they don't believe kindergarteners should have play time and should be subjected to strict weeding so none of the 3rd grade classes become diluted by social promotion |
when -- by 2025? they weed out students as they progress, thus removing many of said siblings before preference is utilized. |
This is all speculative. No request or proposal to expand down now. There was talk of it a couple years ago but not currently. |
| K-4th would have to be in a different facility. |
| Having a long waitlist and being unable to fill the 6th grade class was a reality check for them. |
How about 2015?. They only made something like 25 spots available in the lottery for 6th and have something approaching 200 on the wait list. |
I don't think that your version of events is accurate, PP. They did fill the 6th grade. Unfortunately, many of the families who had committed to coming by May 1 subsequently changed their minds, and many of those did not notify the school until the fall. Some kids just didn't show up for the first day of school. Other kids went to school for a couple of weeks while waiting to hear from their preferred schools. By the time BASIS started calling families on the wait list to fill available spots, those families had already committed to other schools and did not want to switch. What happened this year with the BASIS 6th grade probably has more to do with poor wait list management than weak demand. |
All schools have kids who don't show or commit then change. Weak demand is when you have a long waitlist but families choose other schools rather than grabbing a spot regardless of when the sport opens. |
We were well over 125 and didn't take the spot when called. I believe that was before school opened or right after. |
