So many times those that come out as trans also come out screaming about radical thoughts pulled off their internet groups. If you don’t think there is an undercurrent of bullying and indoctrination, ask people on the inside who have dared question.

How do explain the existing of trans people before the internet? Or the “3rd genders” that existing in pretty much every human society for the last few thousand years?

If coming out has helped ease your child's pain, why wouldn't it be?

I’m pretty sure this is what Newman meant, or something like it. My son is trans. I remember the day he told us he was trans. If felt like the fog had lifted and we could start living our lives in a way that made sense. He could be himself, stop trying to conform, and start being happy. We, as parents, could start helping him get through the real issues he then faced, and stop with what would never be more than bandaid solutions to a deeper problem he wasn’t able to share with us for so long. When he told us he was trans, it’s not like everything was magically fixed, but at least we knew what we were dealing with and could find a path forward. That wasn’t my happiest parenting day though. My happiest day was when DS got his top surgery. His body matches how he feels so much better now. Again, not a miracle cure, but he was so much happier after that. Those two days are definitely in my top ten most important days, and although not necessarily the happiest moments in real time, they led to a happier life for my nuclear family. It’s hard to be happy when you’re never able to be yourself, and it’s hard to watch your child be unhappy for unknown reasons. I’m sure she meant something along those lines, not that she finally got her dream of having a transgender child to come true.
