Agreed. What if someone wanted a cake with hate speech on it? Kill (fill in the blank group), or KKK, swastikas, what have you. Things you will be charged with a hate crime if you spray pain them on the side of a building. I think a baker has to bake the cake but can tell the customer to write their own inscription. |

Hate speech is not really a legal term. The question is whether it is compelled speech. See Wooley v. Maynard. I don't have a problem with a sign maker or cake baker from refusing to produce speech they don't agree with. But a cake is not speech, it is a dessert. |
