Catholic cotillion cost $275, no dinner. |
| 7th/8th grade makes more sense to me for this kind of activity. Why does CC start so young? With which grade is it most popular? |
| By 7th and 8th grade kids are no longer interested. |
Not entirely true. The kids at our Catholic school loved Cotillion, looked forward to going and had a great time. It is one of the rites of passage for the 8th graders. My son was actually kind of bummed when it was over. |
Is it b/c the middle school dances kick in? |
3-6th grade is the most popular time to do this Lots of bar/bat mitzvah parties so many of kids end up at those instead. At Mrs. Simpson's, by 8th grade, pretty much half of the kids ha dropped out. Middle School dances and mizers also play a part. |
There's not a lot of bar mitzvah's going on if you're part of the Catholic school scene
I can't speak to Mrs. Simpson's, but I can tell you the 8th grade cotillion is extremely popular and well attended. My son just said last night that he was sad there was no more Cotillion. The 7/8th grade dances are popular as well but the kids don't view them as an alternative to Cotillion. |
| We are also at Capital Cotillion and it seems to me that the 5/6 grade dances are more attended than the 7th or 8th grade based on the amount of name tags I see each week! |
| Is there something in the area akin to the debutante balls in NYC? |
Isn't that when they absolutely get interested (in socializing with members of the opposite sex, that is). |
| Do either of them actually teach manners? I did Simpson's in 6th grade (a looong time ago) and while they sort of taught the dance steps, I don't recall there being any actually discussion of manners, etc. Only the expectation that you use them. Maybe that happened in the earlier years? If they are taught at one and not the other, it would definitely make a difference in which we chose. |
we have done both (with different kids) and Capital Cotillion did a better job of manners and social awareness( each dance they had a theme, one was bringing canned goods for fod donations, one was scarves and mittens for donations tokids that didnot have any) That is not done at Mrs. Simpson's. |
| But do they do actual etiquette instruction? I appreciate the good works (and agree that was not a part of Simpson's), but am wondering more about actual instruction in etiquette that would matter to those age groups. |
My son is at CC. They do. |
Why not? |
