Yes- in the past, it has been in the neighborhood of 150 for many years in a row.

Don't let that stop your daughter for trying out if she's interested. More than 50% of those 150 are not strong players. That's not meant to disparage any of the girls who try out, I respect all kids who put themselves out there.

What's on the schedule for the St James this weekend?

Yeah, wish people could just be respectful and mature. So tired of people trying to stir pot. I am curious to hear who was there and who (generically) looked good w/o bashing a team or region.

Pride and Stars girls looked strong. A few others looked really good too but have no idea where they are from.

No parents were allowed in the facility, so there's that.

Agree with this - Although it is true that most of the Capital team is likely obvious before tryouts there are spots given to girls that didn't even go to a clinic. Show up, look the part and impress.

^This. If you dont believe the Capital staff has some idea of the make up of the teams already and dont know the talent, you living in denial. The PP is correct, they will take a handful of unknows that might not have shown up to clinics, Healthy Baller, Pre tryout sessions, but its a very small number.

Don’t be discouraged by this talk. Honestly, there are very few “obvious” Capital players - probably just a handful in my view.

I agree but don't be discouraged, but it's naive to think that Capital does not already have a good idea of who will make up the teams.

I think they probably have a good idea for no more than 10 players. As far as I’m concerned, the rest are up for grabs.

You’re talking about Cap Blue?

My daughter is on Cap Blue. They look for speed and the ability to use both hands. If your daughter is missing one of those skills, it will be tough to make Blue.

Capital Blue will take the best 22 players that they possibly can. I believe that there was a girl from Florida that made 26 blue between 9th and 10th grade. Stud athlete. Best player available to fill a roster spot. Also- I heard an player M&D Black made it as well going into Sophomore year-- over current 26 Orange players.

Best Players Available. Kind of like Joe Gibbs and Bobby Beathard building a championship roster for the Redskins in the 80s.
They drafted....

Best. Player. Available.

No matter what.

It seems like a pretty good philosophy to me!

Do college coaches have clinics an camps to get a look at recruiting classes?

Do college coaches do their homework on players and go watch their games and game film to determine who they want to make offers to?

Do they have an idea of who they want and do not before Sept 1st?

Of course they do.

So why is it so terrible for Club programs to do the same?

Asking for a friend.

Great post and so true about Gibbs/Beathard (though they did not always agree on who the best player was).

Define “best” player though?
