CCDS, then All Souls, then Washington Market. I’d be surprised if anyone disagreed with this order.

Curious to know why you put CCDS ahead of All Souls

Curious on this one as well. I would say All Souls over CCDS or same level. I had a chat with a parent from CCDS that had to harass their PSD for feedback from ongoing schools. They weren’t getting feedback as early as all the other feeders which I thought was so strange.

CCDS is smaller (fewer kids to place), slightly more preparatory for k (vs Reggio), and historically better exmissions. The facilities are better in my opinion, and the teachers are more seasoned. I heard delayed feedback as well this year, but they still did well in the end.

We didn’t get in to CCDS and ended up at All Souls. It was fine, but I’d still rank CCDS above it.

All Souls only has two PreK classes who exmit, does CCDS only have one? I also feel like CCDS has more siblings and legacies to compete with. I also disagree that teachers are less seasoned at All Souls. They had one teacher retire last year after many many years (teaching since the 1980s). The turn over is very low at All Souls, and all head teachers a some associates all have masters degrees.

I can’t speak to CCDS facilities, I’ve never seen them, but All Souls upgraded their facilities a few years ago.

Also in terms of K preparedness, All Souls kids get in to all the same TT schools CCDS kids get in to, so they are definitely just as prepared even with a play based curriculum (which is what kids in early childhood should be getting).

I’m well aware. As I said, we went to All Souls (recently enough to have been there after the renovation). CCDS has about 90 kids total in the entire school. Smaller school always means fewer to place into kindergarten. I’m not sure how you can disagree with my assessment of teachers if you’ve never seen CCDS?

All Souls has plenty of siblings and legacies. As an example, when is the last time an unconnected kid got into Trinity from All Souls? I can tell you what year that was, and it wasn’t in the last three cycles.

TT of the TT: Episcopal and 92 Street Y

Then: Temple Emanu-El, Brick Church, Park Children's Day on the UWS (huge connections at Brearley)

Then: STMPG, All Souls, West Side Montessori, Washington Market, Garden House, Christ Church

MAPCDS would go into the third tier.

I'm not sure there is even a question in terms of reputation etc. Exmissions are year by year, I would not make a decision based on that and if you are it is very hard to accurately get a view between connected vs unconnected. WSMS would only make sense if convenient or some other connection IMO.

Episcopal, Brick, 92NY, MAPCDS, STMPG, REDS, All Souls, Christ Church, Park Children’s Day, West Side Montessori, Brownstone, Montclare, Garden House, York Avenue Day School, International Preschools, Merricat’s Castle School.

Brick for Dalton and Park Children’s for Collegiate or St B. Trinity is basically impossible for k so if it’s going to work because of you/your kid, either of those schools will get it done.

Just a data point but people swear by 92NY and PCDS as THE TT but we know legacies from PCDS that turned it down for WSMS and board of trustee members of 92NY that chose WSMS for their children 🤷🏾‍♀️

I would be shocked if this was true.

+1 unless they needed the childcare (WSMS offers very long hours).

Agreed. WSMS is 2-3 tiers below Episcopal.

I'd add that 92NY does not have a board of trustees, they have a board of directors. Given the age of the directors, they would be more likely to be grandparents than parents.

Yes feedback was late but almost everyone got into TT (much better than what all souls posted on their IG) so all's well that ends well? Pretty much all the teachers have masters, not just head teachers. Zero turnover except for teachers retiring after 40+ years there.

Honestly we are equidistant between the two schools. Leaning towards PCDS (5 days a week) vs CCDS (3 days), but I was hoping to gut check to make sure this isn’t a stupid decision.

PCDS and CCDS are very, very similar schools in terms of pedagogy, size, teachers, and exmissions. The differences are the geography (UES vs UWS) and CCDS has an amazing rooftop whereas PCDS utilizes the central park and their huge gym. Geography and facilities, otherwise basically the same school.

All Souls vs CCDS is a different conversation entirely.

Not a stupid decision. Take 5 days.

Agreed very similar schools, but PCDS has a lot less natural light. The community is also very different - both are warm and welcoming, but PCDS feels like more down to earth/west side, CCDS is a more Hamptons/east side vibe. For example, PCDS sends a lot more kids to public recently.

Agreed. Community is slightly different. UWS is chiller in general. Plus or minus depending on what you’re looking for.

All Souls got kids into every school besides Horace Mann per that list… I say this genuinely as a parent considering both .. what outcome did CCDS have that was better ?
