Same deal with Ted Lasso. The show sucked but has a weird cult fanbase. Probably a lot of overlap with the Barbie fans.

You't not allowed to not like Ted Lasso!

You're allowed to not like whatever you want to not like. The problem is when you insist that everyone who does like it is lying or paid off or whatever - and the other problem is that you come into threads where people are enjoying themselves talking about a show or movie they enjoy and you just insist on responding to every comment with another paragraph about how much you hate the show and how bad it is, and blah blah blah.

Yeah, you didn't like it! Barbie or Ted Lasso! This sort of millennial-style wholesome/emotional dramedy is not for you! That doesn't mean you need to center yourself in every conversation about them!!

You got it exactly the wrong way, boo. It's more like you express even a mildly disapproving opinion of the "fave" show or movie and people act like you killed their dog or "just don't get it" .

Who is doing the centering?

You're seeing that in here? I'm not seeing that at all. There's the conspiracy theorist who is upset that Mattel is trying to make a buck. It's ok if Disney or Dreamworks tries it, but Mattel is going a step too far! Who do they think they are trying to make money off their toys? And the weirdo with the secret squirrel handshake who likes to leave movies and provides paragraphs and paragraphs of what makes her tick. I see lots of posts of "it was just ok" with nobody even responding, much less to tell them they just don't get it. We must be reading different threads.

Yeah, you aren’t reading the same thread at all? You actually maybe can’t read, idk. This is all persecution fantasy.

You’re so triggered over Barbie and keep coming back for more.

It’s a discussion board, my friend. It’s not a “universal adulation for Barbie” thread. Personally, I am annoyed because based on the trailer I really thought I’d love it. But based on the behavior of the Barbie cultists, perhaps it’s better I didn’t like it. You people are a bit scary.

If you don’t want people to comment on your negative opinion then don’t comment at all. Some people liked it and some didn’t but you seem offended that some liked it. Get over it.

No, I’m not offended people like it. Unlike you, I don’t go around melting into a puddle when someone likes something I didn’t. But it is quite telling that you assume I must be offended.

Start a Barbie praise and worship thread if you don’t want to encounter any opinions of the movie that aren’t entirely glowing.

Omg you read my mind +1

If there are already opinions form those who thought it was mediocre or boring, what exactly is your problem? Nobody is getting mad about those. This problem exists in your head. Other people liked it. So what?

Lady, I’m just responding to you. I don’t care if people like it. You seem to be the one freaking out about any negative opinions about the movie appearing in this thread. If you don’t care that some people don’t like the movie, stop trying to control what people post.

I notice this same thing happened in the “Are you there God, it’s me Margaret” thread as well. Any criticism of the movie was met with immediate backlash.

It is tiresome. It’s actually kind of interesting why some people might like a movie and some might not, and I like seeing posts from both groups, but these bizarrely tribal cultists take even mild criticism of these movies as some sort of hit to their identity.

So to recap: You don't think there's anything weird about someone leaving movies so regularly that they have a hand signal for their spouse - who has no say, I guess? - that it's time to go.

Moreover, you've managed to hijack the whole thread to make it about how no one wants to hear you say that you disliked Barbie. Now the whole thread is you snowflakes airing that complaint.

It's true, that no one wants to hear about it - but you've managed to say that a hundred times anyway. So much so that no one else is posting here anymore.

That person didn't even walk out of the Barbie movie, they walk out of other movies and side tracked the conversation. Got another example?

Can you quote one of these? I'm not easily finding an example.

Well let’s see. Someone said they walked out of the movie because it was boring and was made fun of for the hand signal they gave to their spouse.

NP. Making fun of that PP is not related to any criticism of the Barbie movie, lol

People leave movies all the time. All the time! If you don’t know that, you obviously don’t go to the theater often.

Same deal with Ted Lasso. The show sucked but has a weird cult fanbase. Probably a lot of overlap with the Barbie fans.

+1 and complain that they are posting in their thread. This thread is for all opinions on the Barbie movie, good or bad.

You're the one complaining, without any evidence that what you claim is happening is actually happening.

Let’s get back to the movie discussion. Barbie sucked!

oh dear. My 15 yr old is going to go see it with her friends this weekend. Yea, I can't imagine such a movie would be any good.

I just saw it with my sister and we both thought it was just okay. The best parts were the set and costumes. Everyone was cast really well and Ryan Gosling was fantastic and funny. But overall? It was so heavy handed in the writing. It took a very complicated topic and made it so simplistic. I don’t get all the love for the writing team who wrote the script. It really wasn’t that good.

Yes, this. I am also surprised when people discuss the message that resonated. We've been hearing the message over and over for years, e.g., here https://vimeo.com/393253445

What's new and eye-opening did the movie do with the message?

She may love it. It is really resonating with the teens I know. I also really enjoyed it.
