I looked again. Diana was NOT wearing a seat belt. Yes Charles should have been honest in the beginning, but I'm not sure that was his intended plan. I think he planned to be a dutiful husband until he couldn't, or wouldn't. Still Diana had a opulent lifestyle. The public enjoyed her more than Charles which ticked him off. Again non of these nitwit men were worth giving up all that. I think if she would have stayed and lived her son Harry would have better mental health. A lot of domino effect with the poor choices. Also, I agree about Camilla, but Diana had the ball and dropped it.

She was a blonde, thin, young woman with an Earl for a dad. There’s no reason to think that if she had had the opportunity to date before getting engaged at 19 (!!!) she couldn’t have found someone else to give her an opulent lifestyle as well.

Agreed. I like to think without Spencer bullying and Windsor bullying, Diana would have remained single and gorgeous until she was 30 years old and been able to get a handle on her mental health while happily teaching little kids. And then, as a beautiful 30-year old with appropriate medication and a good therapist, she would have attracted the attention of a wealthy gentleman who would have given her all the comforts that Charles could provide, but without all the publicity and abuse.

I really wish her life had gone that route.

Genuine question: what mental health issues did Diana have prior to her marriage? I know that she likely had issues related to divorce and parental discord, but I had thought that bulimia, depression during her pregnancy, and other issues were directly related to the multiple and severe stressors in her married life. I agree with you. I wish her life had gone that route as well. I think she truly enjoyed her ability to bring attention to causes that she championed, but I imagine that she would have been satisfied and happy with the securities of a nice, comfortable family life.

she either had BPD or such severe PTSD that it resembled BPD

She will become the first Step Queen Mum in British history.

...you're joking right? British history is littered with them. Queen Anne Boleyn was step-mum to Queen Katherine's child - Princess Mary (known as Bloody Mary on the throne). Queen Jane Seymour was step-mum to Katherine AND Anne Boleyn's kids. Queen Katherine Parr was step-mum to all three kids before Henry died.

Thanks for the article. This seems to quote opinions from non-professionals, based on Diana’s behavior after her marriage. I’ll do some digging and see what I can find focusing on her earlier life — perhaps the book that she cooperated with.

You have to understand that Diana belonged to the last generation of British aristocracy where higher education for women wasn't seen as desirable. She was uneducated, essentially, and raised for the explicit purpose of finding a husband. When this is your entire mission, a 30-year old looks like a failure, especially a 30-year old nursery assistant. Remember, there would have been pretty girls being born every day, and she'd be aging. Also, her family had many troubles but money wasn't one of them.

All the money was going to Diana’s brother. She would have had to marry well anyways if she wanted to maintain the lifestyle she grew up in.

Oh, please. More garbage slander. These leeches are grasping at anything because lurid headlines sell.

I admire her for taking a backseat, not seeking the limelight and paying her dues with her charity work, unlike the Meghan Markles of the world. She’s never complained publicly and has always been supportive of the BRF, even though they treated her like a second-class citizen for years and didn’t consider her good enough to be a marriage prospect for Charles. She held her head high despite being one of the most despised woman in the world. You’ve got to admire her for that, if nothing else.

Plus 1000. And all this Diana worship is too much. She and Charles were not meant to be together. And news bulletin , the Crown is not real.

Agreed on being neutral to slightly positive. I think she was meant to be with Charles and it was messy and pretty much everyone behaved terrible, but the past is the past. They seem happy together, she does good work, and also seems kind of funny and relaxed. I'd have a drink with her.

Wrong re money. The Spencers weren’t destitute but they didn’t have a renewable source of wealth like the Westministers. Now their money literally comes from opening Diana’s death island and garden to the public. Which tells you all you need to know.

Independent of all other circumstances, she deeply hurt Diana, William and Harry who are innocent parties. I could never do that. I'm sure most of you couldn't, either. It's truly scumbag behavior.

They were in love before Diana came along though. I'm sure you would be mad at your husband for marrying you when he was in love with another woman. She's not innocent but I wouldn't blame her as much.

I have to agree. The Royals have a completely different set of “rules “that they have to abide by. Charles and Camilla were always in love. Diana was an arranged marriage. I really don’t understand why people think it was some love story between Charles and Diana.

+2. And I know Diana was young, but she was also in that orbit, I don't really get how no one sat her down and let her know the deal, with Camilla specifically, but with marrying a future King overall. You have the heir and the spare and you get the titles and respect, but he IS going to have mistresses. They pretty much all do. Thankfully I think Kate is well aware of the bargain and wouldn't throw such antics over (completely expected) infidelity.

I don't think William would cheat on Kate - not because he's such a great guy (he's not), but because his family can't afford another scandal. The minute he sleeps with another woman, she has a weapon against him.

"Buy me a Maybach, or I'm going to the press with PROOF that you slept with me. Yes baby, I took photos while you were asleep."

"Give me a grace and favor apartment so I can always be close to you, my love...oh, and did I tell you that I had lunch with this lady from Bloomsbury today? She handles all manuscripts for tell-all memoirs!"

Yeah, no WAY is William going to step out on Kate. And why wouldn't Kate threaten to divorce him if she found out? She already produced England's heir. She can get a nice alimony and country house if she needs to divorce William. Not to mention all the public sympathy would be with Kate, and people would rake up memories of Princess Diana AGAIN.

William is super aware of all this and he's probably way too scared to ever have a mistress.

I do believe that he cheated on Kate when they were dating though. 100%. He needed to explore all of his options before settling for Waity Katie. But now that she's produced an heir and she has a good public image, he can't be unfaithful so easily. Especially after Prince Harry and Prince Andrew causing scandals.

I think you are so wrong. Of course he is cheating. I don’t think he’s falling in love with other women like his father but he’s definitely getting regular strange. Kate wants to be Queen Consort some day. No way would she give that up over some flings. She doesn’t want tabloids following her around. Her FIL will technically have custody of her kids when he gets the crown. I don’t think she gives a shit of her husband has some discreet sex. Because he definitely is.

+1. I do suspect that it bothers Kate because, unlike Charles and Diana, they were in love. But Kate knows the deal and will look the other way to keep her family together.
