Carrie Bradshaw was not good looking enough for her dating life

How is this even open to interpretation? SJP’s own dating life is even more impressive than her character’s.

SJP had natural charisma and a charming personality and just exudes happiness and positivity, and people are just drawn to people like that. Apparently a lot of women resent that. It’s mind-boggling.

Right but SJP the person is not Carrie the character. Carrie’s personality was far from charming.

I didn’t see her personality mentioned in the thread title??? People who are charismatic appear more attractive. I only watched a handful of episodes of that show, but Carrie and Samantha were by far the most charismatic. Miranda was acerbic and unpleasant and Charlotte had the personality of a rock, which made her super boring and unappealing, despite her indisputable physical attractiveness.

My 2 cents is that SJP looks very sexual and this is enough to release the DCUM's harpies. She's that naughty girl who stole their HS boyfriend. Below is DCUM's favorite look - a refined classical beauty, who opens her legs only three times for reproductive purposes only.

She really doesn't look very sexual, at least not more sexual than Kim Cattrall character. No one accused KC of being ugly or not pretty enough for her dating life. And if you meant that SJP herself looks very sexual, that makes no sense either. Her clothes are not sexy per se and some choices are straight up goofy.

Exactly, I think Kim Cattrall was and is pretty, and seems like a fun, attractive, sexy person. SJP is just ok looking, but her character's personality was so annoying, and I hated many of her fashion choices.

Matthew Broderick and Robert Downey Jr are no prizes.

With the exception of Aiden (and possibly Baryshnikov) her TV boyfriends were NOT attractive…

Only Aidan was conventionally attractive. The rest not so much.

Right not in the title but everyone knows if you are ugly with a good personality then you seem less ugly. Carrie was super selfish and generally a garbage partner.

People are going to disagree with you because a lot of the Jewish women on this board fit that description. I say this as a Jewish woman. We’re not known for our looks.

You mean American Jews.

Israeli women otoh — have you seen idf tiktok?

I’m not sure why Israeli women are hotter but it’s night and day compare to American diaspora

Not to entertain your anti-semitism-adjacent observations - but they are more sephardic, and we are more ashkenazi. them's the shakes.

yeah, Matthew Broderick doesn't do anything for me. She is more attractive than he is.

I don't care as much about her looks compared to what an awful friend she was.

Carrie was the definition of a user & a taker -- even Sarah Jessica Parker said that.
Charlotte was a giver & Carrie was a taker.

Carrie either made everything about her; or she was about to make everything about her.

Remember her hissy fit when she felt entitled to Charlotte's engagement ring?
She thought Charlotte should sell it and give her the money, because she was so financially & fiscally irresponsible.

She put on this phoney act of "faux" concern in regards to Charlotte still wearing her engagement ring... SHE thought it wasn't healthy to do (she's the last one who should be dispensing advice on what's healthy).
She didn't care about Charlotte's health -- she wanted that damn ring.
So she manipulated & shamed her into selling it.

Carrie needed to buy her apartment or she had to get out, but of course she had NO savings, NO retirement, NO collateral, NO steady source of income (writing her columns were per diem, and she was paid by the word) & she had abysmal credit.

The only thing of value that she had was her overly abundant & ostentatious shoe collection. Look, I love shoes as much as the next woman, but I don't recklessly live above my means and make irresponsible choices & purchases with money I don't have... especially rent money.

She was never, ever there for anyone else, especially her closest 3 friends, and even the few times she pretended to actually be there for them, she'd always find a way to bring the attention back to her (ala Miranda and the bagels).

Carrie never did a single thing that didn't benefit her... she was never selfless.

Her looks were the least of her attributes she was bankrupt in.

Yes, I realize she was a fictional character a TV show was based around... it's a show that I loved too!

I actually didn't realize how morally bankrupt Carrie was, up until I rewatched the entire series again about 10 years after it ended (and I was 10 years wiser).

I really didn't mean to go into a whole dissertation about Carrie's faults, however I just don't like it when I see people putting her on a pedestal, like she was some Joan of Arc.

+100

At a certain point, the writers merged Carrie the character's personality with SJP's real one, and the latter took over as the show progressed. Like we're seeing on AJLT right now, with Miranda becoming more similar to Cynthia Nixon than to the character we remember from the OG SATC run.
