FCPS Boundary Review Updates

Anonymous
Did anyone else notice how slide 4 provides for “Phase 2 Data Analysis and Scenario Updates”?

Would those “updates” be simple refinements of what we have seen so far, or is there a possibility of “back to the drawing board” type scenarios?

If they are “back to the drawing board” then nothing is really off the table at this point. The past month may have just been a “lay low and let things cool off” period before the big hit over the summer.

No, this is how these people talk.

Nobody talks like that except your child’s medical providers who don’t care to learn the parents names. People don’t walk around calling their friends “momma.” 😬

Have you been in some of the neighborhood parents groups - I had to leave mine because there were so many people calling each other momma, it was so cringeworthy.

Then quit calling other people "momma." You just sound as stupid and cringeworthy as anyone else.

Those phase 2 scenarios look like the are planned July - September. Lovely.

Too many “lawnmower” parents here.

Some here argue they will move their kids to private if rezoned. Will their kids be ok? They will be torn from their communities. They will have to create new relationships with teachers. They will have longer commutes. That seems quite disruptive, along with the $30K plus tuition.

Why don't the parents who want rezoning worry about their own kids, instead of lobbying for other people's kids to get moved around to "fix" schools in other neighborhoods?

^^THIS. Notice, the advocates for rezoning never divulge where their kids currently go to school. Why? Because they know they are complete and utter hypocrites.

Nobody is LOBBYING for YOUR children to get moved. I have a child in western Fairfax. I would like my child to go to the same high school as their middle school friends, but FCPS for some stupid reason won't swap two elementary schools zoned to two middle schools that are literally 2 miles apart to make that happen and do you want to know why? Because of AAP parents. It is so incredibly stupid.

Well, that's utter BS. This thread is over 300 pages long precisely *because* there are some unhinged parents who are desperate for certain neighborhoods to move to different schools. I do, however, agree about AAP parents and hope that AAP centers become a thing of the past.

Seems like political suicide to try to make another big change at this point. If it’s not proposed now, whoever proposes it in the future would have to answer to a lot of livid constituents.

Well, also it's just common sense. Forestville isn't overcrowded, so there is no need to move kids out.

As many of us have been saying from the beginning, there is zero need to move anyone from Langley or Forestville. Those schools are not overcrowded, so it would be a ridiculous thing to do. And notice, there is no one moving to/from Herndon, either.

I'm so sorry your vendetta wound up falling flat.

Per FairFacts Matters FB page...

A-Sandy that wouldn’t be the intention or something the board would support
Q-So then the intention is to turn the neighborhoods south of FFX Parkway zoned for NFES? (Numerous people asked)
A-Rachna No plans yet. Waiting on draft of first maps.
Q-CIP school projection numbers have been historically off. Paraphrase-What are you doing to rectify the problem? No answer. Ignored question.

Why would Langley need to change at this point? Their capacity is fine. Herndon’s is fine too. Yes, parts of Forestville ES are slightly closer to Herndon than to Langley, but they’re still not exactly *close*, and those far flung areas have to go to school somewhere.

+1
It's so incredibly obvious that the only reason certain people wanted to move Langley/Forestville was to fulfill their own sick obsession with that area.

And then Reid went out and hired a consultant that has paid no attention to transportation times, and the School Board has done nothing to object to the non-compliance with the policy they adopted just last year.

The corruption could not be more obvious, regardless of whose nephew may or may not attend Langley.

You and your fellow obsessives are mentally unwell. Langley didn't need to be moved, so it wasn't. Herndon wasn't, either. Maybe you should seek medical advice before you develop an ulcer over this non-issue.

I have never seen someone explain which kids could fill Langley. You can mock it all you wish, but I understand feeling a connection with the high school your neighborhood attends.
I know that when the Langley boundaries were drawn that Herndon was crowded and not considered a struggling school. And, now, you want to change it--not because Herndon is underenrolled, but because it has high FARMS.

For years, Great Falls has supported Langley. At some point, if Tyson's gets the growth expected--along with school children--that will be the time to change the boundaries. For now, there appears no place to pick up kids to fill Langley.

If FCPS wants to fill Herndon, then eliminate IB at South Lakes and other county schools. Believe me, the people at South Lakes would like to get rid of it, too.

+ a million
Thank you. The vendetta by some against Great Falls/Langley makes it clear there is a huge axe to grind that has nothing to do with crowded schools.

The map is really hard to read. I live in Emerald Chase - are we now zoned for Oakton?

Supposedly it’s supposed to be looking at all the feedback they get from these upcoming meetings.

DP. It kind of sucks they are going to move a bunch of other people who live a LOT closer to their schools than Forestville is to Langley just so they can say they did something, while ignoring the real elephants in the room.

But that’s FCPS. A bunch of folks who talk a good game but are absolute chicken shit when it comes to taking on the noisiest parents.

Gloat away.

So Lewis is still burdened with IB. Only offers Spanish and Arabic. And will continue to shrink - projected to be under 1500 students in five years.

I used to think they might care to turn it around. But it is clear now that it is a designated high ESL/FRL school. The school administration and county must like it this way. I can only think they stick with IB to allow students to pupil place out.

There is no reason for the high-achieving students to remain. I will recommend to everyone I know to get out - pupil place, go private, move, or even homeschool.
