class minimum for immersion

My DCs class has gone from 25 to 20 or so since the beginning of the year, and this is just first grade. I know it's normal to lose a couple, but I'm guessing there will be more at the end of the year. Is there a point where they eould cancel the program?

This is my fear for our school's program (FCPS).
There are a number of military families that participate, and then inevitably move out of the area (and school) within --2 years. This opens a ton of spots that can not be filled.

I wouldn't blame the military families. I blame the AAP parents who pull their kids out for AAP magnet schools after second grade. (boos to my schools PTA president who did this) My youngest son's class started at nearly 28! I was OK with that. We were in the german school, and the german teacher was very organized!! I went to catholic school with 35 kids and no aids. I know my oldest DC ended the program with only 32ish kids down from a start of 50ish (two classes with 25 each)

My kid's immersion school lost 10 students after 1st grade, DC got into the program in 2nd grade, where there were 26 students per class. After AAP and military moves, they were down to 21/22 at the start of 3rd, and I believe we are now at 19 per class due to 1 or 2 transfers to a regular classroom, and military moves.

I too, am curious to see what happens in 4th grade. The smaller class size is wonderful, but I know it is not sustainable, sadly.

Those of us with kids in 30 plus students per classroom do not look favorably on the immersion program for this reason. I don't think there is a "need" for those classes to be so small.

To be fair, as the PP, I know our immersion school has blended upper grade immersion students with all other students in the grade. So, no worries... we're not getting special treatment. (And not one class in our entire school, to my knowledge, exceeds 28 students. Except the aforementioned immersion.)

Definitely not getting special small class treatment in immersion here. (FCPS) DS's 3rd grade immersion class (2013/14) had 24 kids in it, but after many dropouts last summer, they consolidated the 3 immersion classes into 2 for 4th grade, all of which have 34 kids. It's been a challenge. I guess we should be glad there were enough students to allow for this rather than eliminating the program.
I don't know what has happened in smaller schools, but I haven't heard of a program being cancelled for low enrollment, yet. I think, as PP said, they will try combining grades before canceling, but obviously at some point elimination becomes the only thing they can do.

Which programs are these that are getting such low enrollment?
