We have frequent flyer accounts on both airlines. Miles enough for flights and US airways sets up a new account on Amrican with a new AA advantage number. Plus there is still the old AA number.
The miles didn't merge! Anyone else have this problem? I wait on hold, followed all the pre merger directions and it's a mess. |
| Every detail of both accounts must match exactly. I had a stray middle initial in one and they didnt merge. Fixed it and they did. |
| I have that problem because of different middle names on the 2 accounts (initial on one, full name on the other). I didn't fix it pre merger because it looked like a hassle (required documentation, etc). So now I have 2 AA accounts. I looked a couple of days ago on the website and it says that the ability to merge accounts is "coming soon" so I will wait a bit. In the meantime I guess I will just use the original AA account for travel. |
| yes, had problem OP. Luckily many more of my points are on AA not US Air. |
| Just call them and they'll merge your accounts- it'll take 5 minutes. |
| Why in the world would anyone even have USAir miles? |
I have over 100,000 US Airways miles, and used about 90k for an international ticket a couple of years ago. 2 reasons - first is that I fly on the shuttle to NY and Boston a lot. second is that it's super hard to ever use US Airways miles, and never really seems worthwhile for something like a trip to Boston, so I just kept them. So the AA merger is good for me as there will be more interesting options. |
You should give them a call. You don't need a new AA number, they'll be able to add your USAir miles to your existing AA account. I had the same problems others did with the accounts not matching exactly, but once they did it merged just fine - adding the USAir miles to my old AA account. |
How in the world could someone be such an asshole like you? |
Before it became outrageously expensive, their hourly shuttle to NY was the best way to get there. I am sure there are plenty of other markets out there where US Airways was the best option. |

OP here. ScareWays had alot of flights to /from our destinations. It was hard to use the miles since it had to be roundtrip. AA seems to have become far better on mileage deals so people who had accumulations on USair are lucky.
DCA used to have more options and better price points for flying to FL for example. Airtran/USairways/Jetblue. That party ended when SW took over Airtran. Now Frontier moved into the USairways charlotte shuttle terminl at Dulles and has some bizarrely cheap flights. |
| Just call them and have them merge the accounts. It takes 5 minutes! |
You must not travel much. If you go to Boston, New York, Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach from Reagan, USAir is your best bet. Not to mention nonstops to Key West, Nassau and Bermuda. |
no-it took hours and then 24-48 est for the merge to be in effect. |
I emailed them and it was fixed the next day. No waiting on the phone |
