I'd rank Barnard, Smith and Wellsley higher than the rest.

These colleges are all over the place in terms of strengths and size. Eg Hopkins is a small urban engineering focused school and Smith is a SLAC and Vanderbilt is a medium/big research university.

I would start with what kind of school is a good fit.

I don't think of Pomona for athletes.

This is DD's list. I am happy the list is short.

I would be happy to send my child to any of those schools except Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is too Greek.

If she is a northern girl eliminate Vanderbilt. If she gets southern white country club girl culture, keep it on the list.

Athletic might mean tennis, swimming and volleyball. In that case Pomona is an option.

Really depends on what you mean by "athletic", i.e. does she want to play on an actual varsity team? And in what sport (i.e. Hopkins lacrosse for instance is D1)?

In terms of difficulty of getting in, Pomona then Hopkins and Vanderbilt, then Wellesley, Barnard and then Smith.

But this is really quite a bizarre list in terms of location (NYC vs middle of nowhere desert i.e. Pomona) social feel (very Greek all the way to so politically correct many kids would go nuts i.e. Smith), academic strengths (engineering/sciences to very liberal arts with no emphasis on science) etc.

I can't believe there is any DD out there that would fit in socially at both Vanderbilt and Smith, they are incredibly different and your daughter should definitely actually go stay overnight at either of those before applying early or before deciding to go.

I agree, a bit of a bizarre list. Op, she shouldn't focus just on prestige. If she going to be happy at these schools?

And the fact that you want them ranked. That's bizarre too. It's about her comfort/happiness.

OP here, Pomona is the only school DD has not visited.

BTW, 30 years ago I liked UVA because it was large and not like my high school. Smith was appealing because it was all girls. I applied to eight schools with no real similarities. I selected Northwestern and so did my best friend. Go figure.

Of the women's schools, I'd rank Wellesley higher than Barnard and Smith. I think Wellesley is a really special place.

Vandy and JHU are similar only in that they are universities. JHU is probably not what I would think of for a social, outgoing girl. Vandy would be a great option for someone who will enjoy a more Southern, Greek-oriented social atmosphere. If that's not your DD, I'd steer clear.

I think Pomona could be a great fit if your DD prefers a coed school and a more collegial (rather than competitive) academic environment. Worth visiting, IMO.
