Living in Canada I remember when we were tough on abortion and had to go to the US. We haven't had any abortion law for over 30 years, one of the few countries in the entire world like that. We fly under the radar. Contrary to popular opinion nobody is getting late term convenience abortions here either. Our abortion rates aren't even terribly high compared to countries with restrictions.
Maybe have NO LAW and let women do what they like. I would be ridiculed for trying to tell my neighbour what to do with her body. It's a medical procedure between herself and a doctor. |
This is where we should end up. Abortion should be regulated by the same medical bodies that regulate every other type of procedure. And FFS don’t let the GOP ban abortion like they want to. |
+1. This is the only “conservative” position. Any law whatsoever is the nanny state interfering. The fact is a lot of people make a lot of money off unwanted children, whether from their sale, for their parents’ desperation, or their eventual imprisonment. Follow the money- it isn’t Big Abortion making out. Most abortion doctors would love for abortions to be a small part of their practice. It’s Big Religion and Big Prison and Big Business that profit off the bodies. |
“We trust women to make decisions for their own bodies. When Congress passes a law to restore reproductive freedoms, as president of the United States, I will sign it.”
- Kamala Harris in her first campaign speech. The contrast could not be more stark between her and the GOP’s talk of national bans, abortion as slavery (for the fetus), pregnancy as an “inconvenience.” |
Texas is suing the Biden administration for providing contraceptive access. Texas has the highest repeat teen birth rate in the country and they want to cause more pregnant teens.
Abortion is functionally illegal in the state of Texas. It’s not about life, it’s about controlling women. And wrecking lives, I guess. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/26/texas-teenage-birth-control-lawsuit |
Exactly. |
Women aren’t people in the GOP. Prove me wrong when they do stuff like the above and they say stuff like below: ![]() |
