| We're in the middle of trying to close on a house - and the location will make a big difference in commute assuming the sale completes successfully. Before we lock ourselves into a school across the city, we'd like to make sure the purchase is really 100% complete. We *should* make the May 1st deadline, but it could be tight. Does anyone know if schools are flexible at all on the deadline? Do they start pestering you prior and give a hard cutoff on May 1? Or is it kind of a "close enough" situation if it's May 5th or 6th? |
| Why wouldn't you just enroll? What other choice would you have? You can give it up later. |
| I would enroll and then withdraw later if you need to because of where you are closing. |
| It's a firm date. |
|
I don't know for sure, but because waitlists are managed centrally by MySchoolDC, I would guess that they will be much more rigid with the rules than if the schools were managing them independently.
I do know that the particular charter that we matched with said it was a hard deadline and if we weren't in by May 1 our spot would be offered to someone else. |
They are moving from across the country. Probably can't prove residency until they close on the house. |
OP here. I neglected to mention that the enrollment would be at Bridges for PK4 match in the lottery. We currently live on the hill and are in PK3 at Appletree Lincoln Park. We'd prefer to go to Bridges, but in the event the sale doesn't complete (bad inspection, financing problems, etc) - we'd want to stay at Appletree (can't make the commute across the city). If it does complete successfully (as planned), we'd go to Bridges, and live nearby. We're in the process of the purchase, but may not be able to get it done by May 1. See the issue? |
| They should call the school, explain the situation, and see what can be done. |
| Call Ms Neris at Bridges and explain. If she has any leeway, she will give you flexibility (but she may not). |
Meaning, sheay not have leeway |
It's both schools, actually. OP will have to enroll at one or the other by May 1st....or get both to simultaneously be flexible. |
| Don't follow, doesn't take more than a week,or two for inspections. You should be set well before May 1. |
|
Is this your first home purchase?
The financing contingencies in the GCAAR contracts are to protect the brokerages from the dumbest of dumb agents/lenders. The home inspection will be the biggest issue, but that should be done very early in the process. The appraisal will be done shortly thereafter. Just give the lender everything they ask for as soon as possible and your financing will be OK too. Enroll in Bridges. You'll be fine. Don't stress. |
Is that true? She didn't get a spot in apple tree's PK4 program through the lottery -- she has a spot there because she's currently there. Does reenrollment in your current school have the same hard deadline? |

Re-enrollment forms are due June 19
