I don't know why you're honed in on the purple sweater when there are a lot of other examples of her dressing much too old for her age. In my 20s (20+ years ago), I probably would have worn that purple sweater, sure. But I wouldn't have been caught dead in an oversized suit jacket, those weird pleated tapered pants she wears, etc., I actually wore stylish, fitted skirt and pant suits every single day. Key word: fitted. |
My husband likes some funky style and doesn't usually care what I wear, but I'm pretty sure he would laugh for a full ten minutes if I tried to wear this out of the house. |
Ivanka looks adorable. Hate her politics and family but if I looked like her in my mid 40s, hell yeah would I wear those looks! She looks great! |

I don't like the fit or the look of the false pocket tabs on her. I watched a bit of her last press briefing and noticed (have before but no as consciously) how she bounces when she speaks. She's 5, 15, and 50 all at the same time. |
New to this subtopic: I’m sure the poster was talking about it because it was posted as an example of bad old fashion. It’s not particularly terrible. There are lots of examples of her being an old lady but the purple wasn’t one. Why can’t you say - purple sweater was a bad example and then post more bad ones? No need for you to die on the hill either |
It did not look old lady on the press secretary but it does look old lady on the old lady Ann Taylor model. |
She bounces once for every lie she tells. |
I agree it actually looks worse on the model, maybe because it is baggier on the very skinny model, but also I think because it shows the whole sweater. Those fake pocket things are just an abomination, and I really expect more from Ann Taylor. I think the posted photo of Leavitt in it doesn't look bad, but I suspect it was worse in person because this just isn't a good sweater. The color and the knit are nice, but the buttons are not great and the pockets are just awful. Ann Taylor, really, do better. |
Not to keep harping on purple sweater, but I actually think the buttons would be okay (and the pockets might be bearable) if the sweater was long sleeved and looked more like a "lady jacket". Lady jacket is not my favorite style, but it's on trend and looks good on younger women, so would be a better choice for her. Like, isn't this one also from Ann Taylor a million times better? Feel like you could wear this with navy straight leg or wide leg pants and some kind of simple shell and it would look pretty fresh and professional:

I have this one and it’s super comfortable/great for a cold office. Although now I’m doubting myself 😂 |
So . . . head-to-toe dead animals? |
Gross. |
There ae multiple people posting this, sweetie. |
I crowdsourced this for you guys - I texted both pics to four of my nieces aged 22-30 (all professionals - an engineer, a consultant, an investment banker, and an MD) and they all agreed this is an old lady top and none of them would be caught dead shopping at Ann Taylor. |
