We are having house guests this weekend and need ideas for Passover friendly foods to serve for breakfast. 2 kids under 5.

Apple Kugel -

These work with Matzo cake meal if you do corn (and of course, you can top with anything - we use jam) :

Those are kind of fussy, "company" recipes - although the Kugel can be made ahead. I assume you've thought of eggs, fruit and yogurt, matzo scramble, and all the basics!

Matzo brie, matzo french toast, blintzes, scrambled eggs, eggs with lox or salami

Thanks for the ideas. Probably should clarify that we are not Jewish. I don't think this family is super observant so I assume corn is okay.

I assume Cheerios are out? What about oatmeal?

Now I see that oats are out too. What about grits since that's corn based?

This will mostly be self serve breakfast, especially on Sunday since we have to go to church for Easter, so I want to make sure I've got appropriate options on hand. Sounds like eggs, yogurt, fruit will work. We have some matza.

9:32 here. I'd ask about the corn before you serve it. It's less the level of observance and more the particular cultural subgroup they are from.

9:32 - just as a super quick primer - what no observant Jews eat: wheat, barley, spelt, rye, oats
What most observent US Jews don't eat in addition: rice, corn, lentils, beans (including soy), and peanuts

Of course, there are tons of variations. I'm Jewish, and I still always ask before serving food to other Jews. But that's a rough idea.

I'd serve matzah with jam, salted butter, cream cheese, a fruit platter, and an egg dish. Matzah brie if you have time to make it.

Yogurt and berries. Frittata with vegetables and eggs. Matzoh with butter, jam, cream cheese, almond butter if pb is an issue.

PP here. First ask if they are observing Passover. If not, then anything goes. If they are then stay away from anything grain, corn or rice based and that includes even a little bit of flour in something. Nothing that has any type of leavener such as baking soda/powder either. The only thing that can give "lift" is eggs. Also, so is an issue too. You might want to get some smoked salmon to go along with cream cheese on matzoh.

Why don't you ask. We all have our rules and some of us don't keep passover at all. I can promise you they are not strict about it, or they wouldn't be willing to stay with you over the holiday.

Definitely ask what their restrictions are. People observe quite widely. With that said, some pretty safe bets:

yogurt with fruit--you could make smoothies if you want.

cottage cheese.

matzah with almond butter, sunbutter, cream cheese, butter, or jelly. or grilled cheese on matzah with tomato.

Any kind of eggs--scrambled (with cheese and veggies? salsa?), crustless quiche, hard boiled.

quinoa cooked with milk and fruit and cinnamon--sort of like oatmeal.

many stores sell passover cereal. It doesn't taste that good and is hideously expensive.

Great list except for the sunbutter. Sesame seeds are out for many.

Wow! That Kugel looks fabulous! Do you think it'll still be good if I omit the apricots? Thanks for posting!

Isn't Sunbutter made from sunflower seeds not sesame seeds?
