Where did you buy a glider?

Anonymous
We are looking for a nice glider but want to be able to sit in it before buying. There are so many options online, but I am hesitant to drop $1k on something I can't touch/sit on. What have others done?

Go to Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, or a specialty store like Great Beginnings to try out the gliders and ottomans. I would not feel comfortable buying these online.

Great beginnings. Keep inundated that the one you sit in in the store is broken in and may feel differently when it comes to your house. That surprised me

I bought the one I liked best at Buybuybaby. It took 8-10 weeks to arrive but I love it so much I bought a second one.

Great beginnings, definitely

If you buy at Great Beginnings, make sure you first read the reviews on Yelp. They are notorious for taking MONTHS to deliver furniture and are very bad about following up and providing status updates. Personally I would never buy anything from there that needed to be delivered, since I have heard so many bad stories.

I bought mine at Pottery Barn Kids. They have a few sample chairs at their store in Tysons Corner. It took about 4-6 weeks to be delivered, which I found to be reasonable, since I ordered in a custom fabric. Many of the chairs at Great Beginnings are around the same price point as Pottery Barn Kids.

This was my experience from great beginnings. After weeks, it was delivered the morning I was induced. I ended up buying a back up poang from Ikea just in case!

I have the standard rocker and ottoman from PBK and it is fantastic! Love that it swivels and is so comfortable. The delivery people were so great, even moved the temporary chair down to the basement without batting an eyelash.

11:41 here. I meant keep in mind

Anyway, I bought at great beginnings and they delivered within the quoted timeframe. When the glider arrived I hated the color - it looked different in my nursery than it did in the store. I called the manager and explained the problem. This was a custom, final sale order. Despite that she allowed me to return my original glider and replaced it. All I paid was the cost difference in the replacement glider. Pretty amazing customer service if you ask me.

This. We ended up getting one of the more expensive ones, but seeing as we spent hours on it some days, it was worth every penny!

Craigslist.

You can also always try in-store (agree re: Great Beginnings) and then buy online - that's what we did. We got a $720 Dutailier set for $430 off amazon...prime shipping. Of course if you're thinking over $1K I'm guessing you don't want something off amazon?

Just another anecdote re: ordering from Great Beginnings...we did get our Natart crib from there and were quoted a 14-week wait. Crib came in 7 weeks. So there can be a long wait, but they're up front about it and seem to overestimate so you know the worst case scenario. These items come from factory (our crib was made in Quebec) so it's mostly out of their hands, from what I can gather.

Buy Buy Baby. DH and I literally sat in every one in the store to fine the one more comfortable for both of us. We have spent a lot of time in it and I think it was worth it!

+1 We did the same thing 10 years ago and that chair is still a household favorite (no more babies so it's now in the TV room)

I keep almost buying the Monte Joya Rocker at Daisy Baby in Bethesda. For my first kid, I bought the cheapest glider I could find at Great Beginnings. This time around, I'm trying for something more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing--- but I'm not sure that I can stomach the cost.
